The Living Dead
Where are you in your life? What are you doing with your life? Are you truly living life to the fullest? Many of us get caught up in gaining vast wealth and accumulating material possessions. We equate living the good life with the amount of 'stuff' we have.
There are many people who harbor feelings of great anxiety, depression and mental anguish because of what they do not have or do not possess. They continually search for happiness and the perfect life by measuring it against the number of possessions they have acquired. Don't get me wrong; it's good to have and acquire nice things. It's great to have a decent job and be able to provide for yourself and your family. God wants us to live abundant lives. He wants to see us thrive and not just merely survive. But are you robbing yourself of living? What happens if you lose your job, your house, or a loved one? Is that the end for you too? Does that mean you are not worthy? No, it doesn't.
I encounter so many people who complain and remain unhappy because they are not satisfied with what life has dealt them. They feel less than successful and worthy. Yet, if you truly have a relationship with God, you can begin to understand that trials will come, storm clouds will hover over your life, but God remains on the throne. He is in control. He knows what is best for you. When situations arise in your life, remember 'this too shall pass'.
There is always a reason to be grateful for life here on earth. While we are on earth, we should make the best out of it. This, after all, is not our permanent home. We should aspire to reside in heaven with God our Father. Until then, live the kind of life on earth that glorifies your Father in Heaven. Live the kind of life that others will see that there is something different about you; live the kind of life that will lead others to Christ. This earth is temporary, but while you are here, don't walk around like you are dead, dissatisfied and dumbfounded. Instead, walk with integrity, show compassion toward others, love others as Christ himself loves you. Live life!
"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matthew 6:19-21 ESV).
