We all need to hear from God each day about many different issues, but there are critical times in our lives when we especially need to know we are hearing clearly from Him. God wants to speak to us, but we have to be careful that we don't develop a closed mind-set about how He speaks to us. We don't need to say, "I will let God speak to me through His Word, but I will not let Him speak to me through a dream." We shouldn't say, "I will let God speak to me through my pastor, but not through my friends." As I have pointed out, God has many ways through which He may choose to speak to us, but no matter which way He chooses to speak, we can count on Him to direct our paths because He promises to do so.

It's not always easy to know if we are hearing from God or if we are hearing from our own mental or emotional reasoning. Some people say it took them years to learn how to hear from God, but I believe that's because there hasn't been enough clear teaching on how God communicates to His people. God wants us to know He is willing to lead us and guide us as a good shepherd leads his sheep.

God speaks in many ways, so ask Him to speak to you today and allow Him to lead you in any way He chooses. God once spoke to a prophet through a donkey, so we want to keep an open mind about how He may choose to speak to us.
