"The Lord our God said to us at Horeb, 'You have stayed long enough at this mountain'" (Deuteronomy 1:6).
In our text for today, we find that Israel
is being told by God to "break camp" so they can advance into the land
that He promised them. Israel has settled at Mt. Horeb and the thought
of moving forward hasn't crossed their mind. They have gathered at Mt.
Horeb to worship and praise God for what He did for them on yesterday.
God brought them out of the wilderness and now they're giving Him honor
and glory.
However, God reaches a
point where He tells the people that they've stayed where they are long
enough. He appreciates their worship and praise, but He doesn't want it
to hinder them from possessing what He has for them. He informs them to
break camp and go after the land that He has ordained for their lives.
I've discovered that a lot of people are being hindered from obtaining
what God has for them because they have developed a spirit of
complacency. They aren't thinking about moving forward. They're just
happy they aren't where they were on yesterday. You should be thankful
that you're not in the same position you were on yesterday, but you
shouldn't let that keep you from possessing all that God has for you.
Don't get to the point where you allow your current title, salary,
academic achievement, place of residence, and other accomplishments to
hinder you from moving ahead to bigger and better things.
God
wanted Israel to realize that He didn't bring them out of the
wilderness to stay at the mountain. He brought them out of the
wilderness so they could advance into the land that He had ordained for
them to have.
Please understand that where you
are is just a "pit stop" to where God is taking you. He doesn't intend
for you to stay there forever because He wants you to possess the land
that He has in store for your life.
