A dog must be housetrained before the owner will allow it to move about freely throughout the house. Sometimes when training a new pet dog, the owner will keep it in a kennel for a period of time, letting the animal out only for times of supervised activity while the owner teaches it boundaries and the rules of the house. Once the dog learns submission and obedience, then it can have total freedom in the house.
The same is true of our thoughts. As long as we let our thoughts go wherever they want to go and focus on anything they like, we have a real problem on our hands. Our thoughts will be causing damage to our hearts because they will draw us away from God. We must hold every thought captive and learn to make each one of them obedient to Christ.
God, we acknowledge that we let our thoughts run wild at times. We allow them to go places You do not want them to go and focus on things that are off-limits. We confess that we have failed to rein in our thoughts and make them obedient to You and Your Word. Forgive us, God, and help us with every thought to please You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
