Choose to be Purpose-Driven and Productive

"For the kingdom of heaven is as a man traveling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.  And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability..." (Matthew 25:14-15, King James Version)

All of us are faced with choices each day that can either lessen or greatly lengthen the quality of life for ourselves and those closest to us. Completing tasks undertaken and fulfilling promises previously made require much more than having good intentions alone.  A determined attitude and deliberate ability are necessary to exhibit excellence and realize results in all of life's affairs and relationships.

In what is known as "The Parable of the Talents" in Matthew chapter 25, two of the three servants who had received talents which represented money, increased what they were originally given by having a determined attitude and showing deliberate actions to make a profit for the owner of their household.  However, the third servant was apathetic in his attitude and procrastinated on purpose by giving excuses as to why he did not put forth the effort to be productive with the talent he was given.  The words spoken by Jesus in this parable were promising to those who were purpose-driven and productive in verses 20-23, but punitive to the unprofitable and unproductive servant in verses 24-30.

Today, we can choose to be purpose-driven and productive when we decide to have a determined attitude and deliberate actions to back up our words and good intentions.  As a result, we will be able to enjoy the fruit of our labor in this lifetime and hear the affirming words of Jesus echoing throughout eternity: 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'

Prayer to Ignite Action:
God, please help me to recognize the potential You have placed within me and to respond by using my gifts and talents to honor You and bless the lives of others.  Open my eyes that I may see the needs of those closest to me and fill those needs by offering words of encouragement and love in tangible ways.  In Jesus' name. Amen.
