"And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ." (Colossians 3:23-24, New King James Version)

Every time I read Colossians 3:23-24, I am encouraged to think, speak, act, and live in ways that reveal the true nature of my heart's desires. Desire begins as a seed planted in the fertile ground of the heart as God's clue of what we were originally created to do. To do anything "heartily" according to Merriam Webster's Dictionary requires acting "in a hearty manner, with all sincerity wholeheartedly, with zest or gusto." Consequently, you and I are called to exhibit enthusiasm and joy not for the sake of pleasing people, but for the sake of pleasing our audience of One, God. As a result, we will be rewarded for a cheerful disposition as we serve Him with the right motive--not just with our actions, but with our attitudes as well.
Prayer to Ignite Action:
God, You are the source of every good and perfect gift in my life. Today, use me to the fullest so that my ability to serve others is motivated by a passionate mission to serve You with all that I am and all that I have. In Jesus' name. Amen.
