"No Muslim is a true Muslim unless he believes in Jesus!" Muslims place this statement at the forefront of any discussionwith Christians about the person of Jesus Christ.

Muslims are quick to demonstrate charity for Jesus and His mother Mary. Jesus' name occurs 25 times in the Qur'an, including these texts:

We gave Jesus the son of Mary clear (signs) and strengthened him with the holy spirit. (sura 2:87)

And in their footsteps we sent Jesus the son of Mary, confirming the Torah that had come before him: We sent him the Gospel: therein was guidance and light. (sura 5:46)

And Jesus and Elias [Elijah]: all in the ranks of the Righteous. (sura 6:85)

Such quotations lend credence to the Muslims' position that they honor the son of Mary. Yet if one looks past the superficial, politically correct desire for unity, the differences between Islam's and Christianity's views of Jesus are vast and fundamental. A high view of the person Jesus Christ does not necessarily mean a correct view of Jesus. Muslims take great pains to assure the public of their beliefs that He was virgin born and that He preached the truth. Christians believe that Jesus was virgin born and was the truth (John 14:6).

Jesus was not merely an example of righteousness, He was the sacrifice that allows mankind to obtain righteousness. He is the Savior. In the end, the differences between Muslims and Christians are proportional to the importance of the cross in salvation.
