Lighten Your Load

"Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us" (Hebrews 12:1, KJV).

Often times we are hindered from doing what we are suppose to do because we carry excess baggage. I want to suggest that a lot of us are not carrying out our assignment because we are bearing a load that God never intended for us to bear. We have been slowed down from effectively doing God's will because an extra load is weighing us down.

The writer of the book of Hebrews is writing to believers in an effort to encourage them to rid themselves of the things that are keeping them from doing what the Lord has called them to do. As believers, they have been commanded to spread the gospel to every nation and tribe. However, opposition from other groups has hindered their progress. Fear has engulfed them and now they are impeded from doing God's will. Excess baggage
has slowed them down because the Bible says, "For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power and of love, and of a sound mind" (2 Timothy 1:7).

Sometimes you have to assess your own life to discover those things that are holding you back. I admonish you to analyze various areas in your life so you can put your hand on those things that are slowing you down. Those factors that bring you unnecessary stress and strain are good indications of excess baggage. Those things that always seem to wear you out is evidence of the loads that you shouldn't be carrying.

Maybe you ought to look at some of your relationships. Maybe you ought to consider your need to be all things to all people. Maybe you ought to analyze your own attitude because it may be the thing that you need to set aside.

I encourage you to assess your own life so you can loose those things that are hindering you from what God has for you.
