The crossing of the Jordan marked the moment when God's people, under the capable leadership of Joshua, whose name means God is Salvation, would break through the last barrier that stood between them and the Promised Land. Let me encourage you by saying, do not give up and do not give in, because you are one step away from your blessing. In fact, according to our text, there was only one thing that really stood between God's people and the Promised Land, and that was Jordan.

The book of Deuteronomy is to be considered a book having tremendous value for those described as the primary recipients of its writings. It was Moses' final words to the new generation of the Children of Israel. Moses' words were not new, but rather, they were a recapitulation of what had been spoken before in Exodus 23:20-33. This new generation was preparing to enter into the Promised Land, but before they entered, Moses gave them some instructions that if obeyed would keep them safe once they got into the Promised Land.
