Jeremiah Wright Speaks at Detroit Black Expo
Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright will
be the keynote speaker for the International Detroit Black Expo (IDBE)
Buy Black Weekend II Ecumenical Prayer Service. The service will be
held at the Fellowship Chapel in Detroit on Wednesday, June 4 from 6
p.m. to 9 p.m. This awe-inspiring ceremony, hosted by metro
Detroit’s faith-based leaders, will be an evening to promote
unity and harmony within the African-American community. Dr. Wright is
the Senior Pastor of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago and
served as Senator Barack Obama’s pastor for more than 20
years. He is recognized as a leading theologian and pastor and has
published four books and numerous articles.
“Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright will stand in American history as
one of the most influential, but controversial figures of our time, and
we are excited to have him speak at our event,” said Ken Harris,
IDBE Founder and CEO.
Dr. Wright will be joined by a host of other prominent presenters for
the prayer service including Rev. Dr. Wendell Anthony of the Fellowship
Chapel; Dr. Carlyle Fielding Stewart, III of the Hope United Methodist
Church; Bishop John H. Sheard of the Greater Mitchell Temple
C.O.G.I.C.; Dr. Marsha Foster Boyd, President of the Ecumenical
Theological Seminary; Minister Raul Muhammad of Muhammad’s Mosque
Number One; and Cardinal Mbiyu Chui of the Shrine of the Black Madonna.
The service is open to religions across all dominations and Muslim
affiliations. Special hosts include, The Council of Baptist Pastors,
Ministerial Alliance of AME Churches, Wolverine Baptist Convention, and
the Church of God and Christ.
The Ecumenical Prayer Service is one of many events scheduled between
Wednesday, June 4 and Sunday, June 8. The Buy Black Weekend II theme is
“There is Power in the Black Dollar.” An impressive line-up
of renowned speakers and presenters will assist, uplift, and stimulate
an estimated 70,000 attendees. Buy Black Weekend II is the ultimate
