Timothy WrightRev. Timothy Wright, who with his wife and grandson, were in a tragic accident in route home from a Detroit church conference, is "holding on" say family members in Newsday. Wright remains hospitalized and alert. He was informed about the death of his grandson, D.J. Wright in the accident. However, the family is holding off telling the gospel artist and pastor about his beloved wife, Betty Wright, who also died in the weekend accident.

Rev. Wright, who has still not been told that his wife has died, will undergo surgery to repair a fractured jaw. He also suffered a fractured ankle, leg, neck and ribs. Wright's five sons are reportedly waiting until the pastor's condition improves before breaking the tragic news about his beloved wife. Funeral arrangements for Betty Wright have not yet been made.

According to state police, the accident occurred around 10:35 p.m. July 4, when John Pick, 44, of Lewisburg, Pa., was driving the wrong way on Interstate 80, crashing into the Wrights' vehicle. Pick was killed instantly in the violent collision.

Rev. Wright's booming baritone voice launched him to international stardom, enabling him to touch millions of gospel fans with moving songs of faith. The respected singer, known as the Godfather of Gospel, was returning from a Church of God in Christ conference in Detroit when the crash occurred, said Leroy Johnson, a trustee at Grace Tabernacle Christian Center, the New York church where Wright is pastor.

Funeral services have been scheduled for co-pastor Betty J. Wright and Daniel (DJ) Wright, Jr.

A spokesperson for the family says that a wake and viewing will be held on Sunday, July 27th at noon at the Grace Tabernacle Christian Center in Brooklyn.

A service will be held on Monday, July 28th at 11 a.m. at Washington Temple in Brooklyn with  interment at Greenfield Cemetery in Uniondale, New York.

The family is asking for financial contributions but has not set up a fund at a bank.
