At a town hall meeting in Kaukauna, Wisc., Thursday afternoon, amidst questions about health care and the economy, a young man said he had a question for Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, and Obama should "please be as intellectual or spiritual as you would like." "Well this is a lot of pressure," Obama said to laugher. "My question is: what does life mean to you?" the young man asked. "Oh goodness," Obama said, a bit taken aback. "What does life mean to me?" He stammered a bit as he contemplated the enormity of the query.

Theological Education Fund Encourages Seminarians to take a Pulpit
They come from a host of Christian denominations, but one thing unites them: they are part of a shrinking number of theology students nationally who are interested in taking over a pulpit rather than doing something else with their degrees. About 100 seminarians from over two dozen denominations, from Baptists and Roman Catholics to Unitarian Universalists, are attending a weeklong conference aimed at reversing a trend of young people shying away from the gaps in churches nationwide left by retiring Baby Boomer ministers.

R. Kelly's Fate Now in Jury's Hands
Prosecutors finished their arguments in R&B star R. Kelly's child pornography case Thursday the same way they began a month ago, by playing for jurors the entire graphic sex tape at the center of the trial. The 27-minute film played on a monitor just outside the jury's box -- the lights switched off and the blinds pulled across courtroom windows -- as Assistant State's Attorney Robert Heilengoetter read through sections of the 14-count indictment that accuses Kelly of videotaping himself having sex with an underage girl.

Inspirations

The Word of God for this Week
"Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord." --1 Corinthians 15:58

The Encouraging Word for this Week
"If you have a doubtful issue in your life, something with a question mark after it, put it to this fourfold test – The Test of Expediency (I Corinthians 6:12): It may even be good, but is it good for me to do? The Test of Enslavement (I Corinthians 6:12 again): Does it make me its slave? The Test of Edification (I Corinthians 10:23): Does it build me up? The Test of Example (I Corinthians 8)” Does it offend the weaker brother? If your problem clears these four hurdles, it should no longer be a problem." --Vance Havner

The Prayer Motivator for this Week
MOTIVATING VERSE: "Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered." --Romans 8:26

PRAYER QUOTE: "Any concern too small to be turned into a prayer is too small to be made into a burden" --Corrie ten Boom

The Soul-Winning Motivator for this Week
"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." --Acts 1:8

SOUL-WINNING QUOTE: “To try to win a soul for Christ by keeping that soul in ignorance of any truth, is contrary to the mind of the Spirit; and to endeavour to save men by mere claptrap, or excitement, or oratorical display, is as foolish as to hope to hold an angel with bird-lime, or lure a star with music. The best attraction is the gospel in its purity. The weapon with which the Lord conquers men is the truth as it is in Jesus. The gospel will be found equal to every emergency; an arrow which can pierce the hardest heart, a balm which will heal the deadliest wound. Preach it, and preach nothing else.” --
C.H. Spurgeon

Black Christian History
Montrose Waite: February 16, 1922 -- About this date, Jamaican-born Montrose Waite received a letter from the Christian and Missionary Alliance mission board saying they wanted to send him as a missionary to Africa. Waite had won the battle against prejudice and rejection and even friends who urged him to the stay in the U.S., his adopted country. Waite would serve as a missionary in Sierra Leone and Liberia and would be instrumental in the founding of the Afro-American Missionary Crusade (1947) and the Carver Foreign Missions organization.
