Sweeping National Study finds
Blacks in U.S. Diverse, Optimistic
The
digital divide between blacks
and whites is fast disappearing. The hip-hop generation, often
portrayed as rebellious, has tremendous respect for its elders.
Prejudice persists, but most blacks are optimistic about their future.
Those are among the findings of one of the largest surveys ever taken
of black Americans and to be released Friday.

Evangelicals Lesser Known than Homosexuals
More
Americans are acquainted
with a gay or lesbian person than an evangelical, according to a recent
study. The latest research by Phoenix-based Ellison Research found that
only 24 percent of all Americans who say they are not evangelical know
an evangelical person very well and 40 percent have never known any
evangelicals at all, even casually. Meanwhile, 53 percent say they know
a homosexual person very well and 20 percent know such a person
casually.

Dr. Dobson Has Just Handed Sen.
Obama a Presidential Victory by Frank Schaeffer (Son of
one of the Founders of the Christian Right--Philosopher and Minister
Francis Schaeffer)
Senator
Obama just took another giant step toward winning the presidency.
Actually, someone who considers himself a sworn enemy of Senator Obama
took the step for him. Dr. Dobson of the Focus On the Family radio
program (and evangelical media empire) has aired a program in which he
attacks Senator Obama, the Senator's theology and his credentials as a
Christian. With enemies like this Senator Obama doesn't need friends.
No, I'm not talking about Dobson energizing liberal Democrats. I'm
talking about Dobson energizing his fellow evangelicals to vote for
Senator Obama.

Novak: Colin Powell Will Endorse
Obama
Robert Novak, in a
column on "Obamacans"
(Obama-backing Republicans), says he expects a high-profile defection:
Neither Powell, first-term secretary of state for George W. Bush, nor
Hagel, retiring after two terms as a U.S. senator from Nebraska, has
endorsed Obama. Hagel probably never will. Powell probably will enter
Obama's camp at a time of his own choosing. The best bet is that
neither of the two, both of whom supported President Bush in 2000 and
2004, will back John McCain in 2008.

Black Ministers' Protest puts Abortion back into Spotlight: Niece of
MLK, Jr. Leads March Demanding Donations from Planned Parenthood be
Refused; Disturbing Video Proves that some Planned Parenthood Officials
are Willing to Commit Genocide against Blacks for Money
Race and abortion politics will merge Thursday when a group of
African-American pastors, led by the niece of Martin Luther King Jr.,
march on the Democratic and Republican Party headquarters to demand
that candidates refuse donations from Planned Parenthood. The reason:
They believe that Planned Parenthood allows racist donors to designate
that their money go to fund abortions of blacks. Planned Parenthood has
outlined a $10 million campaign to fund candidates who support
abortion. But the ministers say they have evidence in videos that
African-American babies are being targeted.

Four
Young Girls Minister to their Peers through their Amazon.com Bestselling
Book, The Virtuous Girl
Children
can minister to
and encourage other children their own age oftentimes with better
results than adults can. Thirteen year old, Danita Evangeline Whyte,
along with her sisters, Danae`, Daniqua, and Danyelle took advantage of
this and wrote the The Virtuous
Girl to
encourage young girls, ages 5-12, to build their lives on the solid
foundation of God’s Word and thus live a meaningful and
successful life. Danita shares with her peers in the introduction:
“I was eight years old, going on nine, when I started to

Obama's Historic
Run Boosts Racist Activity: Washington Post reports of
increase in traffic on racist Web sites.
Washington
Post reporter Eli Saslow
wrote an article in Sunday's edition about an increase in racist and
white supremacist activity, mainly on the Internet, since Sen. Barack
Obama clinched the Democratic Party's nomination for president. "I
haven't seen this much anger in a long, long time," Billy Roper, 36,
who runs a group called White Revolution in Russellville, Ark, told the
Post. "Nothing has awakened normally complacent white Americans more
than the prospect of America having an overtly nonwhite president."

Faithful in Pews Might not be
Voters in November
If
Christian conservatives stay on
the sidelines during the fall campaign, presidential hopeful John
McCain probably stays in the Senate. Christian conservatives provided
much of the on-the-ground, door-to-door activity for President Bush's
2004 re-election in Ohio and in other swing states. Without them, the
less organized and lower-profile McCain campaign is likely to struggle
to replicate Bush's success.

Call to Prayer over Situation in
Zimbabwe
With
violence increasing amid
an already turbulent situation in Zimbabwe, we at BCN are asking our
readers to be lifting up the country in prayer. According to a BBC
report, a summit of southern African countries is urging that the
ensuing presidential election be put on hold, citing the escalated
disturbance. A representative of Langham Partnership International/John
Stott Ministries—Jonathan Lamb—has issued a prayer
request
which included the following report from a pastor in Zimbabwe:

The New
Children’s Book by Super Bowl Winning Coach, Tony Dungy,
titled, You Can Do It! Teaches
Children that They Can Accomplish Anything They Set Their Minds To (In
Stores Nationwide, July 8, 2008)
It
can be frustrating when it seems everyone is doing their
life’s calling
and is happy doing it, but you are still searching to fulfill and
pursue your life’s passion. Such was the case with third
grader,
Linden, little brother to Tony Dungy, and the youngest in the family.
It seemed everyone in the family had found their special talent all
except Linden. Because of this, he lacked that self-motivation to do
anything. But, with encouragement from his parents, a special push from
big brother, Tony, and inspiration from God, Linden begins to soar as
he learns that if he dreams big and has faith in God and in himself, he
can accomplish anything he sets his mind to.

Watch: US Takes Steps
to Prepare for Potential Nuclear Attack
Voice of America News reports: “The Senate Homeland and
Governmental Affairs Committee heard sobering testimony about the
impact of a nuclear attack on the United States. Senator Joe Lieberman,
who calls himself an independent Democrat, is committee chairman:
‘A nuclear attack on our homeland would be sudden and swift.
It
would be devastating and deadly. Failure to develop and test a
comprehensive plan for dealing with the aftermath would only magnify
its impact,’ he noted.

On "Being Saved"
in Black America
While growing up in a very
religious and church-going family, I often heard the phrase "Being
Saved." Now to me and my peers, "Being Saved" was a rather spooky and
mystical thing, and only the real holy folk could be such —
whatever it was.
