What
Do Black Republicans Think of Obama? (Armstrong, Watts, General Powell
and others discuss dilemma)
Black
conservative talk show host Armstrong Williams has never voted for a
Democrat for president. That could change this year with Barack Obama
as the Democratic Party's nominee. "I don't necessarily like his
policies; I don't like much that he advocates, but for the first time
in my life, history thrusts me to really seriously think about it,"
Williams said. "I can honestly say I have no idea who I'm going to pull
that lever for in November. And to me, that's incredible."

(VIDEO) Obama Gets On Black Dads Who Don't Take Responsibility
for Their Children
Barack
Obama celebrated Father's Day by calling on black fathers, who he said
are "missing from too many lives and too many homes," to become active
in raising their children. "They have abandoned their responsibilities,
acting like boys instead of men. And the foundations of our families
are weaker because of it," the Democratic presidential candidate said
Sunday at a largely black church in his hometown.

Call Out Spike Lee on Racism (Italic Institute of America says
director has history of misrepresenting Italians in his films)
Spike
Lee, who just engaged in a back-and-forth volley with Clint Eastwood
over the lack of black soldiers in his recent Iwo Jima films, is being
called on the carpet by an Italian American group for the depiction of
Italians in some of his past work. According to Bill Dal Cerro,
president of the Italic Institute of America, Lee should look at his
own movies before casting stones at another director.

Out of Africa: Africa
University (of the United Methodist Church) awards degrees to 354
students
After
two years of study at Africa University, Bigi Ruhigita prepared to
return to the Democratic Republic of Congo to work in a 50-bed clinic
that she and her siblings founded in honor of their father.
"I’m
the only one in my family in the health field, but I'm happy to be
keeping my late father’s idea alive," Ruhigita said of Jean
Ruhigita, a former bishop of the Pentecostal church in the Congo. "He
wanted the clinic to help poor people in our area, and since 2003 it
has been there for so many people who have no money to go to the
hospital."

The Silly Debate Over
Whether Obama is Black or Mixed-Race
Presumptive
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama gave the best answer to
the question whether he's black, mixed race or something in between. He
recently told a Chicago fundraiser crowd that to some he wasn't black
enough, and he then promptly added that others say he might be too
black. He's right; the knock against him has either been that he is too
black or not black enough, not that he is too mixed race or not mixed
race enough. Despite his occasional references to his white mother and
grandmother, Obama by his own admission has never seen himself as
anything other than being black.

On "Being Saved"
in Black America
While growing up in a very
religious and church-going family, I often heard the phrase "Being
Saved." Now to me and my peers, "Being Saved" was a rather spooky and
mystical thing, and only the real holy folk could be such —
whatever it was.

Pastor
of the Week:
Dr. Stan B. Bennett, Pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Richmond, VA
Dr.
Stanley (Stan) Bennett was born in Fairfield, Alabama on August 12,
1950. On November 18, 1972, Dr. Stan B. Bennett married Deborah E.
Patterson. They are blessed with one daughter, Pamela McCoy;
and,
two sons: Mathew and Jonathan. Dr. and Mrs. Bennett are
privileged to be the grandparents of several grandchildren. On July 29,
1979, after returning home from work as an assistant business manager,
God began to burden this young black man's heart to receive Christ as
Savior. After receiving Jesus Christ as Savior, God shortly
thereafter led he and his family to an Independent Fundamental Baptist
Church. Dr. Stanley Bennett was not called to build a "Black Church,"
but rather a church for all people! It is his belief that one
day
black, white, Hispanic and Asian will live together in
heaven.
Because of this, it ought to be able to work on earth, in the house of
God! To God be the glory, great things He has done! "...and
yet
there is room."
