Actual Text of Obama's Resignation Letter to Trinity United Church of Christ
Dear Rev. Moss: We are writing to make
official our decision to end our membership at Trinity. We make this
decision with sadness. Trinity was where I found Christ, where we were
married and where our children were baptized. We have many friends
among the 8,000 congregants who attend there and we are proud of the
extraordinary good works the church continues to perform throughout the
community to help the hungry, the homeless and people in need of
medical care. We also have come to appreciate your ministry and both
think you have been, and will be, a wonderful pastor for years to come.

Obama's Church Moves On After Exit
All Fred Pope wanted to do was get to
Trinity United Church of Christ's 11 a.m. Sunday service. Instead, he
was bombarded by reporters seeking his reaction to Sen. Barack Obama's
decision to leave the South Side church after nearly two decades. "It's
a deeply personal decision," Pope said simply, clutching a Bible in his
left hand, walking along 95th Street toward the massive brown
sanctuary. Then, Pope stopped, looked to the clear sky, and added, "I'd
be disappointed if he stopped believing in God."

Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you
all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have
said unto you.” Jakes, through his newest book, Release Your Anointing: Tapping the Power of the Holy Spirit in You, shows us how to tap into the Holy Spirit to receive its power to fulfill our God-given role in the Christian walk of faith.

Maybe it's her wide-open smile. Or her
joyful personality. No. It's gotta be that beautiful voice. It's
difficult to pinpoint in a word, but there's just something about CeCe
"Priscilla" Winans that makes her just lovable as an artist and a
person. Call it the "it factor."

Clinton wins Puerto Rico but Obama gains delegates
Hillary Rodham Clinton won a lopsided,
but largely symbolic victory Sunday in Puerto Rico's presidential
primary, the final act in a weekend of tumult that pushed Barack Obama
tantalizingly close to the Democratic presidential nomination. The
former first lady was winning roughly two-thirds of the votes as she
continued a strong run through the late primaries.

Colorado Amendment to Give Rights to Unborn
In what would be the first such measure
in the history of the United States, a pro-life group in Colorado has
successfully submitted a referendum that would give equal legal status
to the unborn. The constitutional amendment, which reads, "The term
'person' or 'persons' shall include any human being from the moment of
conception,” would successfully outlaw abortion throughout the
entire state if a majority of voters vote positively on the amendment
when they go to the polls this November.

On "Being Saved"
in Black America
While growing up in a very
religious and church-going family, I often heard the phrase "Being
Saved." Now to me and my peers, "Being Saved" was a rather spooky and
mystical thing, and only the real holy folk could be such —
whatever it was.

Pastor
of the Week:
Pastor Tommy Steele, Pastor of New Life Independent Baptist Church, Concord, North Carolina
On
October 9, 1978 God led a man by the name of Danny Willis to witness to
a fellow employee that man was Tommy Steele. Following his
salvation, Brother Steele started attending a Bible-believing church
and went to work in the bus ministry. He soon heard God's call to
ministry and started New Life Independent Baptist Church. From
its humble beginnings, in a storefront building, God has used this
ministry to see countless souls birthed into the Kingdom of God.
Pastor Steele's belief that every one he meets is a soul for whom
Christ died has motivated him to center this ministry on reaching
others for Christ. Dr. Tommy Steele is the recipient of many
honors including a Doctorate of Theology and Humanities, but in his
mind those pale in comparison to the honor or ministering to the needs
of others. Dr. Steele has worked selflessly giving himself to the
ministry and God has blessed him richly. Over the years he has
had the opportunity to preach to thousands of people across this
country and abroad. He shares his joy of ministry with his family
who as well has a heart for ministry. E-mail
address: pastor.steele@nlibchurch.org.
Website: www.nlibchurch.org.
(If
you want to submit information about your pastor to be reviewed for
possible inclusion in this section, please send that information

The
Encouraging Word for this Week
"The Church in
the West today presents too easy a target for Satan. We do not believe
we are at war. We do not know where the battleground is located, and,
in spite of our weapons, they are neither loaded nor aimed at the right
target. We are unaware of how vulnerable we are. We are better fitted
for a parade than for an amphibious landing." --Ed Silvoso
The
Prayer Motivator for this Week
MOTIVATING
VERSE: "Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit,
and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all
saints." --Ephesians 6:18

Christian History
Moses Ladejo Stone: February
22, 1880 -- Moses Ladejo Stone was ordained into the ministry in the
First Baptist Church, Lagos (originally known as American Baptist
Church) by William W. Colley. Colley, an African American, is thought
to be the person to have served as an appointed missionary of both a
white-administered missionary-sending agency and a black-administered
missionary-sending agency. Colley began his missionary career in 1875.
That year, he was appointed by the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission
Board to serve in West Africa as assistant to W. J. David, a white
missionary from Mississippi. In November of 1879, Colley returned to
the United States convinced that many more blacks should be involved in
international missions, especially in Africa. As he traveled back and
forth across the country, Colley urged black Baptists to take an
independent course in mission work and form their own sending agency.
Colley was the primary force in the founding of the Baptist Foreign
Mission Convention (BFMC) in 1880.
