Clinton says Barack Obama must Beg him for his Support
Bill
Clinton is so bitter about Barack Obama's victory over his wife Hillary
that he has told friends the Democratic nominee will have to beg for
his wholehearted support. Mr Obama is expected to speak to Mr Clinton
for the first time since he won the nomination in the next few days,
but campaign insiders say that the former president's future campaign
role is a "sticking point" in peace talks with Mrs Clinton's aides. The
Telegraph has learned that the former president's rage is still so
great that even loyal allies are shocked by his patronising attitude to
Mr Obama, and believe that he risks damaging his own reputation by his
intransigence.

LifeWay Study adds Doubt about Pew Poll's Claims regarding
Evangelicals' 'Universalism'
In
a partial release of a
study planned for publishing in full this fall, LifeWay Research's
findings about evangelicals' beliefs regarding the exclusivity of
Christ differed from the recently published results from a Pew poll.
The Pew findings indicated widespread agreement with universalism in
the U.S., "70 percent of Americans with a religious affiliation say
that many religions -- not just their own -- can lead to eternal life."
Pew also indicated 57 percent of those attending evangelical churches
agree that many religions can lead to eternal life. Only 36 percent
chose the alternative, "My religion is the one, true faith leading to
eternal life."

Obama Undercuts His Brand
Barack
Obama, as he introduces himself to the broader voting public, is
emphasizing centrist -- even conservative -- positions on hot-button
issues. In recent weeks, he toughened his stance on Iran and backed an
expansion of the government's wiretapping powers. On Wednesday, he said
states should be allowed to execute child rapists. When the Supreme
Court the next day struck down the District of Columbia's ban on
handguns, he did not complain.

McCains
Defaulted on Home Taxes for the Past Four Years
When you're poor, it
can be hard to pay the
bills. When you're rich, it's hard to keep track of all the bills that
need paying. It's a lesson Cindy McCain learned the hard way when
NEWSWEEK raised questions about an overdue property-tax bill on a La
Jolla, Calif., property owned by a trust that she oversees. Mrs. McCain
is a beer heiress with an estimated $100 million fortune and, along
with her husband, she owns at least seven properties, including condos
in California and Arizona. San Diego County officials, it turns out,
have been sending out tax notices on the La Jolla property, an
oceanfront condo, for four years without receiving a response.

Shares the Challenges of Being a Christian Spouse to a Great Military
Leader
Charlene
Curry, the wife of Jerry Curry, vividly describes for us her journey in
life as a career military spouse. She recounts for us the joys and the
challenges of such a lifestyle in her book, The
General’s Lady.
Curry battled daunting social pressures, depression, feelings of guilt,
fears, and on top of all those negativities, grief over the loss of a
child. She also had to share in her husband’s fight against
racism
while in the military as he tried to climb the ranks.

Risk of Eye Diseases &
Blindness - Rises With Weight
If you
need yet another reason to
keep a close eye on your waistline, read on. Obesity is already
recognized as one of the leading preventable causes of death from heart
disease and diabetes, but it’s also a key factor in sight
loss,
according to a recent report from the Royal National Institute of the
Blind (RNIB) in Britain. “Most people wrongly assume that if
they
don't have any obvious problems with their sight, everything must be
fine," says RNIB eye health consultant Barbara McLaughlan. "With the
huge increase in obesity that we have seen in recent years, many people
are now jeopardizing their sight in later life.”

Arizona Puts Marriage Amendment
on Ballot
Arizona
voters will decide again in
November whether to change the state's constitution to define marriage
as a union between one man and one woman. A 16-4 vote by the state
Senate on Friday night sends the gay marriage ban to the ballot. It had
previously been approved by the House. Arizona voters rejected a
similar state constitutional amendment in 2006. That measure would have
also stopped the state from recognizing civil unions of same-sex
couples.

Please Don't Let Zimbabwe become
Another Rwanda
Kenyan
Prime Minister Raila
Odinga has warned that Zimbabwe could descend into a disaster akin to
Rwanda's 1994 genocide if the world doesn't intervene soon. Odinga has
also called for the postponement of Zimbabwe's presidential run-off
election scheduled for Friday or, failing that, the appointment of a
high-profile African mediator. "Zimbabwe right now is a disaster in the
making."

Watch: Iran Ready to
Strike at Israel's Nuclear Heart
The Times Online reports: “Iran has moved ballistic missiles
into
launch positions, with Israel’s Dimona nuclear plant among
the
possible targets, defence sources said last week. The movement of
Shahab-3B missiles, which have an estimated range of more than 1,250
miles, followed a large-scale exercise earlier this month in which the
Israeli air force flew en masse over the Mediterranean in an apparent
rehearsal for a threatened attack on Iran’s nuclear
installations. Israel believes Iran’s nuclear programme is
aimed
at acquiring nuclear weapons.

On "Being Saved"
in Black America
While growing up in a very
religious and church-going family, I often heard the phrase "Being
Saved." Now to me and my peers, "Being Saved" was a rather spooky and
mystical thing, and only the real holy folk could be such —
whatever it was.

Author of the
Week: Angela Benson
Though Angela Benson
began
writing fiction in Miss Milizo’s fifth grade English class,
her
first book was not published until 1994, more than thirty years later!
Since then, Angela has published nine novels, one novella, and a
nonfiction writing book. Her books have appeared on national, regional
and local bestseller lists, and she has won several writing awards,
including Best Multicultural Romance from Romantic Times magazine, and
Best Contemporary Ethnic Romance from Affaire de Coeur magazine. She
was a finalist for the 2000 Romantic Times Lifetime Achievement Award
in Multicultural Romance. Angela’s tenth novel, Up Pops the
Devil, will be published by HarperCollins in July 2008. Angela has an
unusual background for a writer: She majored in mathematics at Spelman
College and Industrial Engineering at the Georgia Institute of
Technology (Georgia Tech), and worked for fifteen years as an engineer
in the telecommunications industry. She holds two Masters degrees, not
in the liberal arts, but in operations research and human resources
development. Her most recent degree is a doctorate in instructional
technology from the University of Georgia. Dr. Benson is now an
associate professor of educational technology at The University of
Alabama. E-mail

Music
Minister of the
Week: The Blind Boys of Alabama
Since
1939, The Blind Boys of Alabama have sung a fervent blend of
traditional and contemporary Gospel music. Much has changed during
these seven prolific decades. Stylistic phases have waxed and waned;
personnel has come and gone. 78 r.p.m. records have given way to LPs,
followed by eight-track tapes, cassettes, and CDs. The Blind
Boys’ audience – once rigidly segregated and
confined to
traditional Gospel venues – now reflects the
group’s
eclectic, global following, while their repertoire has expanded to
embrace secular songs with a strongly spiritual message. Such wide
acceptance is also evidenced by four Grammy Awards, an honor that
didn’t exist when the Blind Boys started out. Even so, the
Blind
Boys’ lengthy saga remains a steadfast testament to
constancy.
Singer Jimmy Carter, who was there when the group was first formed,
leads the band today with the firm conviction, joyous commitment, and
gravitas that befit an elder statesman. E-mail
address: info@blindambitionmgt.com.

God." --Emmett Fox
The
Prayer Motivator for this Week
MOTIVATING
VERSE: "And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought
always to pray, and not to faint." --Luke 18:1:1
PRAYER QUOTE: "Pray often, for prayer is a shield to the soul, a
sacrifice for God, and a scourge for Satan." --John Bunyan
The
Soul-Winning Motivator for this Week
"And
daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and
preach Jesus Christ." --Acts 5:42
SOUL-WINNING
QUOTE: “A good witness isn't like a salesman, emphasis is on
a
person rather than a product. A good witness is like a signpost. It
doesn't matter whether it is old, young, pretty, ugly; it has to point
the right direction and be able to be understood. We are witnesses to
Christ, we point to him.” --John White

Christian History
Marilyn Lewis - February
20, 2000 -- A heart attack claims the life of Marilyn Lewis, volunteer
at the United States Center for World Mission who helped lay the
groundwork for their African American Mobilization Division. A school
teacher in Pasadena, CA, Marilyn often spoke of her desire to serve as
a missionary in Brazil, reaching the descendants of those who had come
from Africa. Just prior to her unexpected death, Marilyn had written a
call-to-action article: "Just
look
at an African-American church today and you can see testimony to our
new era: richly decorated, air conditioned sanctuaries with carpeted
floors are now quite common. Many drive to church in the latest model
cars. Today, instead of working the tables at restaurants, many African
Americans own them. God has blessed us. Now it is time for the African
American to bless the world in evangelization efforts. In the past,
many African Americans cried because they could not become involved in
missionary work. But now the doors are wide open and we are
without excuse."
