Seeing
that Bush Claims to be a Christian, he should Encourage the Chinese
Believers
The right words from
President Bush in
Beijing could prove extremely helpful to many Christians suffering in
China, said a leading advocate for the persecuted church in that
country. After meeting with Bush in the White House, Bob Fu said he is
hopeful the president will speak out on the Chinese communist regime's
abuses of religious liberty and other human rights. Bush met with Fu
and four other Chinese freedom activists July 29. The president plans
to attend the Summer Olympics, which begin officially Aug. 8 in Beijing.

Study: Men At Midlife Are Happier Than Women (Marriage and Religion are
two of the Biggest Factors in Life Satisfaction)
Women start out as
happy young adults but
by midlife wind up the sadder sex, says a new study on satisfaction
related to financial circumstances and family life, which past research
has shown play a significant role in well-being and happiness. The
age-old debate is put to the test. Researchers analyzed decades of
national data on 47,000 men and women to create a statistical model
that shows women's happiness decreases, while men's increases,
exceeding women's by age 48.

Shifts Position on Offshore Oil Drilling
Democratic
presidential candidate Barack Obama said Friday he would be willing to
support limited additional offshore oil drilling if that's what it
takes to enact a comprehensive policy to foster fuel-efficient autos
and develop alternate energy sources. Shifting from his previous
opposition to expanded offshore drilling, the Illinois senator told a
Florida newspaper he could get behind a compromise with Republicans and
oil companies to prevent gridlock over energy.

Amazon
Kindle Sales Living Up To Projections, Surprising Some
Newest
data point on Amazon's Kindle sales, which Amazon says are great but
won't ever quantify: TechCrunch cites "a source close to Amazon with
direct knowledge of the numbers" who says the company has shipped
240,000 units since it went on sale in November. That number is more or
less in line with Citi anlayst Mark Mahaney's estimates from May; Mark
thinks the Kindle could be a $750 million business that accounts for 3%
of Amazon's sales by 2010. And by our thinking, it compares very nicely
to Apple's iPod introduction: Apple sold 376,000 units in the first
year after introducing the MP3 player, in 2001.

Warns Workers of Democratic Win
Wal-Mart
Stores Inc. is mobilizing its store managers and department supervisors
around the country to warn that if Democrats win power in November,
they'll likely change federal law to make it easier for workers to
unionize companies -- including Wal-Mart. In recent weeks, thousands of
Wal-Mart store managers and department heads have been summoned to
mandatory meetings at which the retailer stresses the downside for
workers if stores were to be unionized.

Memo
to Barack Obama: It's the Christians Stupid! by Mark Joseph
Dear
Barack, In 1980 Ronald Reagan changed the foundations of presidential
politics when he went before an Evangelical group and, referencing the
fact that preachers weren't supposed to endorse politicians, famously
declared: "You can't embrace me, but I embrace you." They loved it and
voted for him in record numbers. Before 1980, many Evangelicals and
conservative Catholics either stayed home or voted Democratic, but
Reagan changed everything. Since then, only one Democrat, Bill Clinton,
has won the White House, and he did it by winning substantial numbers
of these voters. And you have a chance to do the same this year.

Warren Reveals Solution to Gender-Based Violence: The Worldwide Church,
Which Offers Hope to the World
Kay
Warren, international AIDS advocate, author and director of the
HIV/AIDS Initiative at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif., today
addressed the plenary session of the Ecumenical Alliance Pre-Conference
in Mexico City, offering hope for the problem of gender-base violence
through the Church. In a follow-up workshop, husband Rick Warren and
colleagues joined in presenting a workshop on the role of the Church in
HIV/AIDS. "If gender-based violence is everywhere, so is the Church,"
Warren said. "The Church is the hope of the world, and God's plan for
dealing with the problems of the world. Whether dealing with violence,
poverty, orphans or AIDS -- if we don't start with the church, we are
starting at the wrong end of the equation."

"Emerging" Church Leader
Promotes Lifestyle Rather than Faith

is fulfilling the biblical prophecy that in the latter days men will
not put up with sound doctrine - according to II Timothy 4:3. Brian
McLaren recently addressed 650 Anglican bishops attending the Lambeth
Conference, a meeting he says was characterized by "a loving
atmosphere" and "a deep spirituality centered in Bible study, worship,
and prayer." McLaren tells ChristianToday.com that he envisions a new
era for Christianity, which "is more about the Christian way of life
than it is about a rigid and polemicized systems of belief."

Jersey to Add Porn Filters to all Computers
A
New
Jersey state lawmaker's career is over after child pornography was
allegedly found on his government computer. Now one expert on the issue
is asking why that taxpayer-funded computer did not have an anti-porn
filter. New Jersey State Assemblyman Neil Cohen resigned earlier this
week after colleagues in his district office told state police they
found pornographic images involving children on his government
computer. Pat Trueman, former chief obscenity prosecutor for the
Justice Department, says child pornographers come from every profession
and walk of life -- and the longer they view obscene material, he
expalins, the more addicted they become.

“‘Israel
will not let a second

Friday
in regard to Iran's nuclear weapons program, which he said poses an
existential threat to the state of Israel. Mofaz's statements came
during a speech at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy
Friday, in which he also called for further diplomatic efforts
including sanctions, saying ‘we believe that the main
direction
must be diplomacy,’ before adding that ‘all options
are on
the table’ for bringing an end to the program. Mofaz was
quick to
point out that Israel's problem is not with the Iranian people, and

Music
Minister of the
Week: Rev. Timothy Wright, Jr.
Reverend
Timothy Wright is no stranger to gospel music- in fact; he has become
an anchor for gospel choirs across the country. His music is considered
"Sunday Morning Ready" with a diverse array of traditional and
contemporary gospel music. He is also the pastor and founder of the
Grace Tabernacle Christian Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. Rev. Wright first
developed his talents at the St. John's Fire Baptized Holiness Church
of God in Brooklyn, N.Y. In his spare time, he wrote poetry and began
to play the piano at age 12. This would soon lead to him composing for
the church's choir. A pivotal moment is his budding career came in 1969
when he began playing the piano for the late Bishop F.D. Washington at
the Washington Temple C.O.G.I.C. in Brooklyn, N.Y.. Through that
association, he was selected as organist for the Rev. Isaac Douglas and
the N.Y. community choir. With the exception of one, all the selections
on Douglas' classic best-selling 1971 album, "Let's Go Higher", were
written by Rev. Wright . This album was a landmark recording in the
early development of contemporary choir sound. In 1976, he founded the
Timothy Wright Concert Choir. Some of the choir's award winning and
best selling releases includes, Who's On The Lord's Side and Do You
Know The Light. He has also recorded with choirs across the county. Of
these recordings, his most memorable hits include: Troubles
Don't Last Always, Master Can You Use Me and Yes I'm A
Believer.
In addition to this, he also recorded a Stellar Award winning project
with Myrna Summers, entitled We're Gonna
Make It. In fact, one of his projects, Come Thou
Almighty King,
which has garned national recognition, was recorded with a 500 voice
choir, made up of New York's best gospel artists. Without question,
Timothy Wright proves once again that he is the "Godfather" of gospel
music. Get Rev. Wright's latest CD "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus!"
and please continue to pray for the entire Wright family and the Grace
Tabernacle church family.

Christian History
Reverend William W. Colley - an
African American Baptist missionary to Africa; founder of the Colored
Baptist Missions in Africa. He served in West Africa in 1875 as an
assistant to W.J. David, a white missionary from Mississippi. In 1880,
Colley was instrumental in the formation of the Baptist Foreign Mission
Convention, an African American organization which sponsored and sent
Black missionaries to Africa; in 1883 he returned to Africa under their
direction. This organization merged with two others in 1895 to form the
National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc, the first national organization
for African American Baptists. Colley traveled widely, lecturing to
gain support for the African missions. At one of his lectures, a notice
read "Eight years in the Wilds of Africa, where he learned to eat snail
soup and monkey stews...The colored Baptists have supported 13
missionaries in Africa during the last ten years, by whom hundreds of
heathen have been led to Christ."
