Church Brings to Light How Slaves Worshipped
Thousands
of tourists watched last summer as archaeologists, working in the
shadow of Independence Hall, unearthed remnants of the home where
George Washington lived with his wife and several slaves. Now, the
city's best-known Colonial-era church is dramatically bringing to light
how slaves worshipped alongside parishioners like Washington, Benjamin
Franklin and Betsy Ross. Historians have long known that slaves
attended Christ Church — and were baptized, married and buried
there. But it has not been publicized much in Philadelphia, where all
men were declared to be created equal.

The Girl God Wants: Sister to Sister Talk about Loving God, Living a Great Life, and Enjoying It, by Daniella Whyte
Society throws a lot of
ungodly stuff at young ladies today and it is hard to find things that
can empower them to godliness and greatness. In The Girl God Wants,
author, Daniella Whyte, (age 14 when she commenced the writing of this
book), helps young ladies with some of the issues that they face today.
Oftentimes, it is easier for teenagers to relate to each other and they
are sometimes more eager to listen to the advice of their peers. With
appealing chapters and her sister-to-sister style, Daniella shows young
ladies how much God loves them and how to discover their gifts and
purpose in life.

On "Being Saved"
in Black America
While growing up in a very
religious and church-going family, I often heard the phrase "Being
Saved." Now to me and my peers, "Being Saved" was a rather spooky and
mystical thing, and only the real holy folk could be such —
whatever it was.

Inspirations
The
Word of God
for this Week
"Therefore,
my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in
the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in
vain in the Lord."
--1 Corinthians 15:58
The
Encouraging Word for this Week
"If you have a
doubtful issue in your life, something with a question mark after it,
put it to this fourfold test – The Test of Expediency (I
Corinthians 6:12): It may even be good, but is it good for me to do?
The Test of Enslavement (I Corinthians 6:12 again): Does it make me its
slave? The Test of Edification (I Corinthians 10:23): Does it build me
up? The Test of Example (I Corinthians 8)” Does it offend the
weaker brother? If your problem clears these four hurdles, it should no
longer be a problem." --Vance Havner
The
Prayer Motivator for this Week
MOTIVATING
VERSE: "Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know
not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh
intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered." --Romans
8:26
PRAYER QUOTE: "Any concern too small to be turned into a prayer is too small to be made into a burden"
--Corrie ten Boom
The
Soul-Winning Motivator for this Week
"But ye shall
receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall
be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in
Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." --Acts 1:8
SOUL-WINNING
QUOTE: “To try to win a soul for Christ by keeping that soul in
ignorance of any truth, is contrary to the mind of the Spirit; and to
endeavour to save men by mere claptrap, or excitement, or oratorical
display, is as foolish as to hope to hold an angel with bird-lime, or
lure a star with music. The best attraction is the gospel in its
purity. The weapon with which the Lord conquers men is the truth as it
is in Jesus. The gospel will be found equal to every emergency; an
arrow which can pierce the hardest heart, a balm which will heal the
deadliest wound. Preach it, and preach nothing else.”
--C.H. Spurgeon
Black
