Does Obama's Speech to Black Men on Father's Day Constitute a "beat up
on black males that fans stereotypes"?
Presumptive
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama thundered to long, loud
and vigorous applause from a Father's Day Chicago church crowd that
black fathers don't engage with their children. A month before Obama
made this stereotypical and plainly false assertion, Boston University
professor Rebekah Levine Coley, in a comprehensive study on the black
family, found that black fathers who aren't in the home are much more
likely to sustain regular contact with their children than absentee
white fathers, or for that matter, fathers of any other ethnic group.

Faith Congregations
Have Lowest Mortality Rate
Religious
congregations in the United States have a "mortality rate" of 1
percent, which is the lowest among other organizations, according to a
newly published study. About 10 out of every 1,000 religious
congregations disband each year, sociologists at the University of
Arizona and Duke University found. The low rate of demise revealed that
the religious organizations are some of the strongest in the nation,
the report stated.

City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia, Linked to Slavery through Church
Thousands of tourists watched last summer as archaeologists, working in
the shadow of Independence Hall, unearthed remnants of the home where
George Washington lived with his wife and several slaves. Now, the
city's best-known Colonial-era church is dramatically bringing to light
how slaves worshipped alongside parishioners like Washington, Benjamin
Franklin and Betsy Ross. Historians have long known that slaves
attended Christ Church — and were baptized, married and
buried
there. But it has not been publicized much in Philadelphia, where all
men were declared to be created equal.

For This Child We Prayed: Living with the Secret Shame of Infertility
The
false assumption

for her and that there must be some curse upon her life. Lena Arnold,

This Child We Prayed: Living with the Secret Shame of Infertility,
dispels these misconceptions from her own personal experience. In her
own struggle to have children, she takes us on her journey of

Egypt
Church with Jesus Footprint Damaged in Fire
A
historic church in Egypt housing a display of Jesus' footprint has been
damaged by a fire. The fire, set off by an electrical fault, caused
structural damage to the church and destroyed its altar, according to
the Agence France-Presse reported, but did not damage the preserved
stone. Jesus and his family are believed to have stopped at the
Sanctuary of the Church of the Virgin Mary, located in Sakha, during
their flight from Bethlehem to Egypt to escape King Herod's attacks on
children. They reportedly left an imprint of Jesus' foot on a rock that
was put on display at the church.

Sister-to-Sister Talk about Loving God, Living a Great Life, and
Enjoying It
Society
throws a lot of
ungodly stuff at young ladies today and it is hard to find things that
can empower them to greatness. In The Girl God
Wants,
author, Daniella Whyte, (age 14 when she commenced the writing of this
book), helps young ladies with some of the issues that they face today.
Oftentimes, it is easier for teenagers to relate to each other and they
are sometimes more eager to listen to the advice of their peers, rather
than their parents, pastors, and teachers.

Remarks
by President Bush in Honor of Black Music Month
THE
PRESIDENT: Thanks for coming. Please be
seated. Thank
you. Welcome to the White House. I really appreciate
you
coming to celebrate Black Music Month. Music has been a part
of
this house since its beginning. Some of our Presidents
themselves
were skilled musicians. Some were
not. (Laughter.) As a
matter of fact, after The Temptations came here a couple of months ago,
I was so inspired that I thought I would take up singing.

Calls for Offshore Drilling While Searching for Alternative Energy
ABC
News's Bret Hovell Reports: John McCain came to Houston, Texas, Tuesday
to talk about expanding drilling for oil off the coasts of the United
States as a short term solution to the nation's looming energy crisis
– a shift in position for him in the face of growing concern
over
rising energy prices."As for offshore drilling, it's safe enough these
days that not even Hurricanes Katrina and Rita could cause significant
spillage from the battered rigs off the coasts of New Orleans and
Houston," McCain said, announcing that he will call for a lifting of
the federal moratorium on off-shore drilling and suggest financial
incentives to states to are willing to pump oil off of their coasts.

On "Being Saved"
in Black America
While growing up in a very
religious and church-going family, I often heard the phrase "Being
Saved." Now to me and my peers, "Being Saved" was a rather spooky and
mystical thing, and only the real holy folk could be such —
whatever it was.

Pastor
of the Week:
Dr. Stan B. Bennett, Pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Richmond, VA
Dr.
Stanley (Stan) Bennett was born in Fairfield, Alabama on August 12,
1950. On November 18, 1972, Dr. Stan B. Bennett married Deborah E.
Patterson. They are blessed with one daughter, Pamela McCoy;
and,
two sons: Mathew and Jonathan. Dr. and Mrs. Bennett are
privileged to be the grandparents of several grandchildren. On July 29,
1979, after returning home from work as an assistant business manager,
God began to burden this young black man's heart to receive Christ as
Savior. After receiving Jesus Christ as Savior, God shortly
thereafter led he and his family to an Independent Fundamental Baptist
Church. Dr. Stanley Bennett was not called to build a "Black Church,"
but rather a church for all people! It is his belief that one
day
black, white, Hispanic and Asian will live together in
heaven.
Because of this, it ought to be able to work on earth, in the house of
God! To God be the glory, great things He has done! "...and
yet
there is room."
