Homosexuals Rush to get Married in California
Hundreds
of gay and lesbian couples had appointments to secure marriage licenses
and exchange vows Tuesday, the first full day same-sex nuptials will be
legal throughout California. From San Diego to San Francisco, couples
readied their formal wear, local licensing clerks expanded their staffs
and conservative groups warned of a backlash as the nation's most
populous state prepared to join Massachusetts in sanctioning gay unions.

New Southern Baptist President Says: "Love the Homosexual, Hate OUR Sin"
Christians
often say "love the sinner, hate the sin" when expressing their stance
on homosexuality. But the new leader of the Southern Baptist Convention
wants to offer something different. "Why don't we love the homosexual
and hate OUR sin?" said Georgia pastor Johnny M. Hunt as he cited Jay
Strack, founder of Student Leadership University. When the public views
Southern Baptists and how they deal with the issue of homosexuality,
Hunt hopes people will see how they love the homosexual.

(VIDEO) Gore Endorses Obama
Al
Gore announced his endorsement of Barack Obama Monday and promised to
help the Democrat achieve what eluded him — the presidency.

Polls: Southern Baptist Pastors and Evangelicals back McCain
Despite
media speculation to the contrary, three new polls show that
evangelicals, including Southern Baptist pastors, support Republican
John McCain over Democrat Barack Obama by wide margins. The polls were
released as Obama courts Christian leaders and voters in hopes of
cutting into what has traditionally been a Republican stronghold.
During the Democratic primary, Obama's campaign released a flyer in
conservative Kentucky showing him at a pulpit, with a cross in the
background, quoting him as saying, "I won't be fulfilling God's will
unless I go out and do the Lord's work." The flyer called Obama a
"committed Christian."

Author,
Barbara Williford, in Her New Book, A Child’s Prayer,
Helps Teach Young Children the Importance of Prayer and Giving Thanks
It
is very important to
teach children, from an early age, how to pray and how to give thanks
to God. Author, Barbara Williford, being fully aware of this, wrote A
Child’s Prayer,
to help teach children the importance of prayer and the importance of
giving thanks. Many can testify how that prayer has brought them
through some difficult times, and what better way to prepare your child
to handle the ups and downs of life than to teach them how to pray.

Sharpton
Accused of Shakedowns (Activist said to threaten boycotts on companies
unless they contribute to his National Action Network organization)
The
New York Post is reporting that Al Sharpton and his National Action
Network group squeeze money out of corporations by threatening to march
on their businesses and boycott their services if they don't pay up. A
rep for General Motors said it had been turning down NAN's repeated
requests for contributions for the past six years, beginning in August
2000. Then, in December 2006, Sharpton threatened to call a boycott of
the carmaker over the closing of an African-American-owned GM
dealership in The Bronx, and he picketed outside GM headquarters on
Fifth Avenue.

A&M University Produces Most Black Graduates
Florida
A&M was recently ranked the No. 1 producer of black bachelor
degree
holders in a report by Diverse Issues in Higher Education magazine's
June 12 edition. The report ranked the university solely by the number
of students who graduate during a school year. For FAMU, that meant
1,256 graduates in the 2006-2007 year. "They appear to be doing a
pretty good job," said Toni Coleman, associate editor of the magazine.

VIDEO: Tiger Wins U.S. Open
With
a throbbing knee and
a pounding heart, Tiger Woods made one last improbable escape Monday
and won the U.S. Open in a 19-hole playoff over Rocco Mediate, his 14th
career major and maybe the most amazing of them all. One shot behind
after a collapse no one saw coming, Woods birdied the 18th hole to
force sudden death at Torrey Pines against a journeyman with a creaky
back who simply wouldn't go away.

Teenage
Author Encourages her Peers in her Book, The Girl God Wants:
Sister-to-Sister Talk about Loving God, Living a Great Life, and
Enjoying It
Society
throws a lot of
ungodly stuff at young ladies today and it is hard to find things that
can empower them to greatness. In The Girl God
Wants,
author, Daniella Whyte, (age 14 when she commenced the writing of this
book), helps young ladies with some of the issues that they face today.
Oftentimes, it is easier for teenagers to relate to each other and they
are sometimes more eager to listen to the advice of their peers, rather
than their parents, pastors, and teachers.

Watch: Threats to
strike Iran concern Israel
Fears
are mounting in the defense establishment that comments by senior
officials regarding an imminent Israeli military strike against Iran
will spur Russia to complete controversial sales of anti-aircraft
missile systems to the Islamic Republic, The Jerusalem Post
learned on Monday. There is also a fear that the comments will lead
Iran to take extra precautions in defending its nuclear installations
and begin to relocate and scatter some of them throughout the country.

On "Being Saved"
in Black America
While growing up in a very
religious and church-going family, I often heard the phrase "Being
Saved." Now to me and my peers, "Being Saved" was a rather spooky and
mystical thing, and only the real holy folk could be such —
whatever it was.

Pastor
of the Week:
Dr. Stan B. Bennett, Pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Richmond, VA
Dr.
Stanley (Stan) Bennett was born in Fairfield, Alabama on August 12,
1950. On November 18, 1972, Dr. Stan B. Bennett married Deborah E.
Patterson. They are blessed with one daughter, Pamela McCoy;
and,
two sons: Mathew and Jonathan. Dr. and Mrs. Bennett are
privileged to be the grandparents of several grandchildren. On July 29,
1979, after returning home from work as an assistant business manager,
God began to burden this young black man's heart to receive Christ as
Savior. After receiving Jesus Christ as Savior, God shortly
thereafter led he and his family to an Independent Fundamental Baptist
Church. Dr. Stanley Bennett was not called to build a "Black Church,"
but rather a church for all people! It is his belief that one
day
black, white, Hispanic and Asian will live together in
heaven.
Because of this, it ought to be able to work on earth, in the house of
God! To God be the glory, great things He has done! "...and
yet
there is room."
