Dr. James Dobson Accuses Obama of
'Distorting' Bible
As
Barack Obama broadens his outreach to evangelical voters, one of the
movement's biggest names, James Dobson, accuses the likely Democratic
presidential nominee of distorting the Bible and pushing a "fruitcake
interpretation" of the Constitution. The criticism, to be aired Tuesday
on Dobson's Focus on the Family radio program, comes shortly after an
Obama aide suggested a meeting at the organization's headquarters here,
said Tom Minnery, senior vice president for government and public
policy at Focus on the Family.

Obama
Watch: Strange New Campaign Seal; Hillary to Start Stumping for Obama; Personal Apology
to two Muslim Women; Japanese Monkey ad; Racists Shirts
Obama
recently unveiled a new
seal that made headlines for its close resemblance to the U.S.
presidential seal. Shown for the first time Friday during a meeting of
Democratic Governors at the Chicago History Museum, Obama's new seal
– like the president's – has a blue background
featuring an
eagle clutching arrows on the left and an olive branch on right. But
instead of the Latin 'E pluribus unum' (out of many, one), Obama's says
'Vero possumus', rough Latin for "Yes, we can." Instead of saying "Seal
of the President of the United States," Obama's Web site address is
listed. And instead of a shield, Obama's eagle wears his 'O' campaign
logo with a rising sun representing hope ahead.

McCain Condemns Aide's Comment
about Terrorism
A
top adviser to John McCain said another terrorist attack on U.S. soil
would be a "big advantage" for the Republican presidential candidate,
drawing a sharp rebuke Monday from both the presumed GOP nominee and
Democrat Barack Obama. Charlie Black, already in the spotlight for his
past lobbying work, is quoted in the upcoming July 7 edition of Fortune
magazine as saying such an attack "certainly would be a big advantage
to him." Black said Monday he regretted the comment.

The New
Children’s Book by Super Bowl Winning Coach, Tony Dungy,
titled, You Can Do It! Teaches
Children that They Can Accomplish Anything They Set Their Minds To (In
Stores Nationwide, July 8, 2008)
It
can be frustrating when it seems everyone is doing their
life’s calling
and is happy doing it, but you are still searching to fulfill and
pursue your life’s passion. Such was the case with third
grader,
Linden, little brother to Tony Dungy, and the youngest in the family.
It seemed everyone in the family had found their special talent all
except Linden. Because of this, he lacked that self-motivation to do
anything. But, with encouragement from his parents, a special push from
big brother, Tony, and inspiration from God, Linden begins to soar as
he learns that if he dreams big and has faith in God and in himself, he
can accomplish anything he sets his mind to.

Pfleger Returns to Church
It's
back to the pulpit for
Father Michael Pfleger. Two weeks ago, Cardinal Francis George ordered
him to take a two-week leave of absence from St. Sabina Catholic
Church, after controversial comments by Pfleger surfaced on the
Internet. As CBS 2's Mike Parker reports, on Monday Pfleger invited
reporters and cameras into his church office on his first day back to
St. Sabina. The deal was supposed to be for pictures only, but once
reporters and cameras were inside, Pfleger's talkative side emerged.
"The Tribune this morning made a statement in the article, it said 'Can
you be Catholic and be an activist?' Absolutely, absolutely.

Court says Child can't be Grounded
A recent
court decision in Canada
should send chills down every parent's spine. The ruling is so out of
bounds that the news story sounds like a parody -- but it isn't. A
Canadian judge ruled that a 12-year-old girl was "excessively" punished
when her father told her she could not go on a school camping trip
because she had broken rules for use of the Internet. As the Globe and
Mail newspaper [Toronto] reports: "First, the father banned his
12-year-old daughter from going online after she posted photos of
herself on a dating site. Then she allegedly had a row with her
stepmother, so the father said his girl couldn't go on a school trip.

A Nuclear Iran is Intolerable
French President Nicolas Sarkozy,
speaking at a special session of the Knesset in his honor, vowed Monday
that France would always defend Israel in the face of any existential
threat - a direct reference to Iran and its nuclear program, which he
called unacceptable. ‘A nuclear Iran is
intolerable,’
Sarkozy said. ‘Anyone trying to destroy Israel will find
France
blocking the way.’ And, to applause from the assembled
politicians, judicial leaders and assorted dignitaries, Sarkozy
declared: ‘Israel must know it is not alone in the battle
against
Iran's nuclear ambitions.’

On "Being Saved"
in Black America
While growing up in a very
religious and church-going family, I often heard the phrase "Being
Saved." Now to me and my peers, "Being Saved" was a rather spooky and
mystical thing, and only the real holy folk could be such —
whatever it was.
