Why
many Americans Prefer their Sundays Segregated
The
Rev. Paul Earl Sheppard had recently become the senior pastor of a
suburban church in California when a group of parishioners came to him
with a disturbing personal question. They were worried because the
racial makeup of their small church was changing. They warned Sheppard
that the church's newest members would try to seize control because
members of their race were inherently aggressive. What was he was going
to do if more of "them" tried to join their church? "One man asked me
if I was prepared for a hostile takeover," says Sheppard, pastor of
Abundant Life Christian Fellowship in Mountain View, California.

Senator
Suing God Urges Judge to Proceed
State Sen. Ernie
Chambers says his lawsuit
against God might seem funny but that doesn't mean it doesn't have a
serious point. Chambers asked Douglas County District Judge Marlon Polk
on Tuesday to let his lawsuit proceed. Chambers said he wants to make
the point that everyone should have access to the courts regardless of
whether they are poor or have the means of billionaire Warren Buffett
of Omaha. "What brought me to the point of filing this lawsuit was the
ill-advised attempts by certain legislators to prevent the filing of
certain lawsuits," Chambers said. Polk said he would consider the issue
and rule later.

'God'
Responds to Senator's Almighty Lawsuit
A legislator who filed
a lawsuit against
God has gotten something he might not have expected: a response. One of
two court filings from "God" came Wednesday under otherworldly
circumstances, according to John Friend, clerk of the Douglas County
District Court in Omaha. "This one miraculously appeared on the
counter. It just all of a sudden was here - poof!" Friend said.

Become All You Are Meant to Be in
Christ--Author Howard Katz shows us how in his newest book, Seven Essential Relationships:
How
to Pass God's Crucial Tests
As
Christians we are all called to walk toward spiritual maturity. And
just as our earthly relationships with family and friends grow and
mature with each interaction, so should our relationship with our
Heavenly Father. We are called, as believers, to grow into all that God
has intended for us to be.Though the author of Seven
Essential Relationships
is not African American, the response of black pastors to this book has
been so strong that the publishers decided to do all they could to make
it known to the whole Christian church in America. It will bless each
pastor and each church member who reads it and will help all readers
learn how to pass each of God's crucial tests so they can move on to an
entirely new spiritual level in their lives.

Richards envisions 91,000 fans at Beijing National Stadium and millions
more on television watching her cross the finish line first in the 400
meters later this month. Immediately afterward, Richards said, she
plans to kneel, say a quick prayer and then point skyward in spiritual
appreciation. "It's important because I want people to know that I'm
not the best because I'm Sanya Richards," the American 400 champion
said at last month's U.S. Olympic trials in Eugene, Ore. "I'm the best
because of God. I truly believe we can't will ourselves to win. I hope
people see the same thing I see."

(AUDIO) "Lynching
Advocate" Toby Keith: Obama "Talks, Acts, And Carries Himself As A
Caucasian"
Last
week, I reported for the Huffington Post that country singer Toby Keith
had performed a pro-lynching anthem on the Colbert Report, and would be
playing the same song soon on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and a slew
of nationally televised talk shows. The lyrics of Keith's song, "Beer
For My Horses," which I transcribed, could hardly be less explicit --
"Hang 'em high, for all the people to see." In my piece, I also noted
the racially tinged nature of the song's video and the forthcoming
movie that Keith's song inspired.

Possible Should Obama Choose Pro-Abortion Catholic for VP
The
head
of a Catholic pro-life group says it would be a "major insult" to
Catholics if Barack Obama were to select a pro-abortion Catholic as a
vice-presidential running mate. The Democratic presidential nominee's
short list for vice president reportedly includes four pro-abortion
Catholics: Delaware Senator Joe Biden, Connecticut Senator Chris Dodd,
Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius, and Virginia Governor Tim Kaine.

(VIDEO) Where Does Obama Really Stand on Rap Lyrics
A
2004
video raises questions about the authenticity of Barack Obama's
opposition to offensive rap music lyrics. Last week the presumptive
Democratic presidential candidate condemned the latest profane song by
rapper Ludacris, calling it "outrageously offensive." The song,
"Politics as Usual," makes derogatory references to Hillary Clinton and
John McCain. Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton issued a statement
saying, "As Barack Obama has said many, many times in the past, rap
lyrics today too often perpetuate misogyny, materialism, and degrading
images that he doesn't want his daughters or any children exposed to."

Will
Edward's Alleged "Love Child" Keep him from VP Spot
A
media
analyst says it's pretty obvious why the mainstream media are no longer
including former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards on
Barack Obama's list of possible vice-presidential running mates.
"Facing questions, Edwards evades reporters." That was a recent
headline in the Charlotte News & Observer newspaper. Former
North
Carolina Senator John Edwards has been ducking reporters' questions
ever since the National Enquirer published a story alleging Edwards had
an adulterous affair with a former campaign videographer.

(VIDEO) McCain
Using Code Words To Attack Obama As "Uppity"
On
Sunday, longtime Washington hand David Gergen took umbrage with John
McCain's recent attack ads, charging that the Senator was using coded
messaging to paint Barack Obama as "outside the mainstream" and
"uppity." "There has been a very intentional effort to paint him as
somebody outside the mainstream, other, 'he's not one of us,'" said
Gergen, who has worked with White Houses, both Republican and Democrat,
from Nixon to Clinton. "I think the McCain campaign has been scrupulous
about not directly saying it, but it's the subtext of this campaign.
Everybody knows that. There are certain kinds of signals.

Elvis Presley's Boyhood
Church Where He "Discovered God and Gospel Music" Reopens its Doors to
the World
"[We
want] to allow the visitor as he sits in the pew to become part of a
worship service from an old Assembly of God church back in the 1930's
and '40's." When Elvis Presley was a boy, his family attended a small,
simple First Assembly of God chapel in East Tupelo, within walking
distance of his home. Inside its walls, says reporter Frank Lockwood,
for 13 years the future American icon "discovered God and Gospel music,
and learned to strum a guitar and sing." The building later fell into
disrepair and was abandoned.

On "Being Saved"
in Black America
While growing up in a very
religious and church-going family, I often heard the phrase "Being

mystical thing, and only the real holy folk could be such —
whatever it was.

Music
Minister of the
Week: Dorinda Clark Cole
She’s
been called “the Rose of Gospel,” “the
church
girl,” and “evangelist” but more than
anything else,
three time Grammy award winner Dorinda Clark Cole is a fired up sister
for Christ and one of the most gifted vocalists in the music world
today. Carrying on the legacy of her mother, mass choir director
pioneer, the late Mattie Moss Clark, along with her award winning
contemporary gospel pioneering sisters who have influenced a generation
of singers, Dorinda Clark Cole boldly comes forth with her third solo
album, TAKE IT BACK. She utilizes her famous vocal runs and preaching
on the jazz infused “Faithful,” which gives the
message
that if you are faithful over a few things God will make you ruler over
many, if you remain faithful through your trials. The soul stirring
ballad “Yesterday,” showcases Dorinda’s
multi-octave
vocal range and will fill you with a calming message of peace and hope
that comes after the storms of life have passed. It
let’s
you know that although the situation might seem bad, it will be over
tomorrow. “If I Were,” the praise ballad sends a
message of
gratitude unto the Lord that will usher in a spirit of praise. With
songs that inspire, encourage and uplift, TAKE IT BACK is another
landmark project from the Clark dynasty. So what is her hope
for
this shining release? She simply says, “I want it to reach
avenues that we feel that it cannot to go, I want people to not give up
and know they can get through it.” I want it to reach those
who
are strung out on drugs. I want them to be able to hand it
over
to other drug abusers and say listen to it and have it bless their
lives.” E-mail: fks130@gmail.com.

Christian History
Elizabeth A. Coles was
born in Liberia, the daughter of missionaries. Her family returned to
Virginia in 1893. After high school, Coles wanted to be a missionary,
but as there was no support for unmarried female missionaries, she
prepared for a career as a teacher. One day she received a letter from
Edward H. Bouey, also a child of missionaries. At their first meeting,
he proposed to her, and they soon married. The couple went to Liberia,
where they continued her parents’ work, ran a school, and
began a
hospital. In 1929 they returned to Richmond with their children and an
adopted African youth. Bouey became a public school teacher but found
time to study theology at Virginia Union University and to earn a
master’s degree in education from Columbia University.
Knowing of
the lack of training available for ministers’ wives, Bouey
proposed a national association for them. Her idea was well received in
the region, and the first chapter of the National Association of
Ministers’ Wives was founded in Richmond in 1939. During the
next
year, Bouey organized other chapters in Virginia and corresponded with
ministers’ wives throughout the United States. The first
national
conference took place in Richmond in 1941, and Bouey was elected
president, a post she held until her death. Over the next sixteen
years, Bouey oversaw members from more than thirty states and from West
Africa; the establishment of the organization’s journal,
Ministers’ Wives Herald; and the purchase of a building in
Richmond. Since Bouey’s death the NAMW has become the
International Association of Ministers’ Wives and
Ministers’ Widows, with more than 40,000 members.
