in meeting)
Barack
Obama discussed Darfur, the Iraq war, gay rights, abortion and other
issues Tuesday with Christian leaders, including conservatives who have
been criticized for praising the Democratic presidential candidate.

Johnny Hunt Wins Southern Baptist Presidency (SBC hopes that Johnny
Hunt, a Lumbee Indian Tribe Descendant, will help with Minorities)
Within
an hour of being elected president of the Southern Baptist Convention,
the Rev. Johnny Hunt was talking about "turning the tide,"
acknowledging the reality that a denomination that cares so much about
winning souls is losing too many. By choosing the 55-year-old
megachurch pastor from Woodstock, Ga., Southern Baptists picked the
best-known name in an unusually large field of six candidates.

Southern Baptists Called to Look
at Reality
Going
into their annual meeting with a smaller membership count and declining
baptisms, Southern Baptists were called to take an honest look at
reality. On the surface level, members of the Southern Baptist
Convention – the largest Protestant denomination in the
country
– may pat each other on the back for all the good works
they’re doing, but outgoing SBC president Frank Page urged
them
to see themselves as they really are, even though it may hurt.

5 million homeless in China
At
the relief operations center in China’s mountainous Qingchuan
county, government workers are still in emergency mode nearly a month
after the devastating May 12 earthquake. Powerful aftershocks, heavy
rains and dangerous “quake lakes” keep them from
devoting
all their attention to their primary task: getting the
county’s
residents into tents. But even as they work to provide temporary
shelter, officials are looking ahead to an even more formidable
problem: When the ground stops shaking and the dust settles, this
county alone will have 250,000 people who will need new homes.

Sister Talk about Loving God, Living a Great Life, and Enjoying It,
by Daniella Whyte
Society
throws a lot of
ungodly stuff at young ladies today and it is hard to find things that
can empower them to godliness and greatness. In The Girl God
Wants,
author, Daniella Whyte, (age 14 when she commenced the writing of this
book), helps young ladies with some of the issues that they face today.
Oftentimes, it is easier for teenagers to relate to each other and they
are sometimes more eager to listen to the advice of their peers. With
appealing chapters and her sister-to-sister style, Daniella shows young
ladies how much God loves them and how to discover their gifts and
purpose in life.

On "Being Saved"
in Black America
While growing up in a very
religious and church-going family, I often heard the phrase "Being
Saved." Now to me and my peers, "Being Saved" was a rather spooky and
mystical thing, and only the real holy folk could be such —
whatever it was.

Inspirations
The
Word of God
for this Week
"Therefore,
my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in
the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in
vain in the Lord."
--1 Corinthians 15:58
The
Encouraging Word for this Week
"If
you have a
doubtful issue in your life, something with a question mark after it,
put it to this fourfold test – The Test of Expediency (I
Corinthians 6:12): It may even be good, but is it good for me to do?
The Test of Enslavement (I Corinthians 6:12 again): Does it make me its
slave? The Test of Edification (I Corinthians 10:23): Does it build me
up? The Test of Example (I Corinthians 8)” Does it offend the
weaker brother? If your problem clears these four hurdles, it should no
longer be a problem." --Vance Havner
The
Prayer Motivator for this Week
MOTIVATING
VERSE: "Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know
not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh
intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered." --Romans
8:26
PRAYER QUOTE: "Any concern too small to be turned into a prayer is too
small to be made into a burden"
--Corrie ten Boom
The
Soul-Winning Motivator for this Week
"But
ye shall
receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall
be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in
Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." --Acts
1:8
SOUL-WINNING
QUOTE: “To try to win a soul for Christ by keeping that soul
in
ignorance of any truth, is contrary to the mind of the Spirit; and to
endeavour to save men by mere claptrap, or excitement, or oratorical
display, is as foolish as to hope to hold an angel with bird-lime, or
lure a star with music. The best attraction is the gospel in its
purity. The weapon with which the Lord conquers men is the truth as it
is in Jesus. The gospel will be found equal to every emergency; an
arrow which can pierce the hardest heart, a balm which will heal the
deadliest wound. Preach it, and preach nothing else.”
--C.H.
Spurgeon
Black
Christian History
Montrose Waite: February
16, 1922 -- About this date, Jamaican-born Montrose Waite received a
letter from the Christian and Missionary Alliance mission board saying
they wanted to send him as a missionary to Africa. Waite had won the
battle against prejudice and rejection and even friends who urged him
to the stay in the U.S., his adopted country. Waite would serve as a
missionary in Sierra Leone and Liberia and would be instrumental in the
founding of the Afro-American Missionary Crusade (1947) and the Carver
Foreign Missions organization.
