For the older generation, it was Pat Boone's book Twixt Twelve and Twenty that educated youngsters on how to have Christ-like relationships. Now, it's a book co-authored by Jeff Feldhahn and Eric Rice called For Young Men Only. The duo interviewed teenage girls about what they wanted from the opposite gender. Feldhahn found that an astonishing number of girls are concerned about whether they are likeable; and a large number also have very forgiving natures, which is a good thing for many guys.
"Seventy-seven percent of the girls said that if a boy is pushing for physical intimacy, [her] respect for him goes way down -- and 75 percent of the girls said that, 'I've got hormones, too, and if I'm in a situation where I shouldn't be and those hormones are firing up, I'm hoping that he will pull me back from the line so I don't cross over,'" he points out.
It is a Christian-based book, but Feldhahn interviewed both Christian and non-Christian girls. "That's encouraging to me because what it says is that the Bible was right. That this is such a powerful area in our life that God ordered it to keep husbands and wives together," he says.
If teenage boys grow to understand and practice the principles in the book, Feldhahn believes it will carry them a long way in terms of relationships. "The goal is that they will learn some principles that will carry them well throughout their life [so] that they will make wise decisions in their marriage choices," he explains.
The author adds that the book is also a good read for parents who want to have a better understanding of what is going through the minds and emotions of children.
