Embattled ex-Knick coach Isiah Thomas was sprawled out on the floor of
his Westchester mansion after overdoing on sleeping pills and given
oxygen by responding officers until paramedics took him to the
hospital, authorities said today. Thomas, 47, who works as a team consultant, was found unconscious in his Purchase home early Friday after swallowing 10 Lunesta sleeping pills.
Harrison Police Chief David Hall said there was no suicide note found and incident deemed an "accidental overdose" because there were no signs he suffered from depression.
In a phone call with The Post on Friday, Thomas claimed it was his daughter Lauren, 18, who had a "incident" and not him - although he didn't elaborate.
"As parents, you try to protect your kids. You don't say they did something when it was you who did it," said Hall.
Meanwhile, ex-NBA star Charles Barkley took a shot at Thomas, saying the team has a better chance at success with new coach Mike D'Antoni.
During a luncheon Monday at the Time Warner Center in Midtown, Barkley said, "I think they have a better coach. This coach probably won't try to kill himself."
Barkley later apologized.
