"It is in moments like these that I am so grateful that we do not preach that we are the solution, but we look to Christ for resolution," Jakes, pastor of Dallas' megachurch The Potter's House, said in a written statement provided to The Dallas Morning News late Friday night.
"So then, as a very human family with real issues, like many other people, we will draw from the same well of grace to which we have led others to drink and be refreshed," the statement concludes.
According to police, Jermaine Jakes, 29, exposed himself in front of an undercover Dallas police vice detective on the night of Jan. 3 at Kiest Park, near West Kiest Boulevard and South Hampton Road.
He was detained at the scene and released, as is often done in such cases. He turned himself in to the Dallas County Jail on Thursday and was released after posting $1,000 bail.
The charge is a Class B misdemeanor, punishable by up to six months in jail and a $2,000 fine.
Jermaine Jakes is one of five children of T.D. Jakes and his wife, Serita.
The pastor is an international celebrity, based on his many television appearances and best-selling books. Last month, he was in the news for the release of a movie he produced, Not Easily Broken, and for speaking at a prayer service attended by President Barack Obama on the morning of his inauguration.
Jermaine Jakes' arrest made the news last week and prompted much Internet comment.
But his father's ministry will not be seriously undercut by his son's troubles, predicted Shayne Lee, a Tulane University sociology professor who wrote a book analyzing the appeal of the Dallas pastor.
Because T.D. Jakes has consistently preached compassion, Lee said, most in the public will show compassion over the trouble in the Jakes family.
"He doesn't have a judgmental message," Lee said. "If he had been a Bible-thumping, finger-pointing kind of preacher, he'd be in trouble now."

As parents, we occasionally feel that our children do not live up to our highest and best ideals. When they do not, we don't diminish our love for them as recompense for our disapproval. Like our children, we also are not infallible nor do we profess to be. Our now adult son Jermaine is 29, but when he was at home he was a recipient of correction, compassion and wise counsel. We hope that the light of what we believe will guide him through times of contradiction and moments of concern as he continues to mature.
In spite of the family pain we feel from this unfortunate situation, it has given us a chance to show him the same help, support, and restorative grace for which our family and church is noted. Through our ministry at The Potter's House, as well as our own home, we have for years offered help in the time of need to all adults, our five children and other people's children.

This is a beautiful message from a broken hearted father.
Well maybe you should have been truthful before the covers were pulled off you and your family, Pastor. Its a disgrace that a grown man would conduct himself in such a manner to avoid your disapproval of him. My prayers are for Jermaine and his struggles to be free and be himself.
I don't understand the comment of swan2693 but we all have issues in our famlies. No matter if you are a pastor or not. I hope that we all will understand that we all drink from the same cup of grace that only God can give. I have been blessed from Bishop Jakes Minstry and this will not change how I see God through him.As man kind we all make choices and some of them are bad choices but the Grace and Love of the Son can always bring us back to the foot of the Father. It is easy to say that the covers has been pulled off of some one but what about the covers that God has not allowed anyone else to see about all of us. That is why we should be willing to stand in the gap for each other and for our children no matter what their age is. Yes this is something that will hurt any father but it does NOT change the love that a father has for his children. Bishop Jakes has always been there for others and as a brother I will lift him and his family up in prayer.
Please allow me to assist you in understanding my post, Mr. Crimbly. First, I have listened to his ministry for at least 10+ years, purchased several books and tapes. He has also inspired me and several of my family members through the yrs. Pastor Jakes is not ignorant of his stepson's sexual orientation. Having raised a gay child, you know your child is gay. You do not need anyone to point it out to you. The behavior exhibited by Jermaine is indicative of sexual orientation issues, if in fact it turns out to be true. The Lord has placed him, me and all Christian parents in this situation for a reason. The Lord obviously wants to use us to provide insight into the pain of the issue, which Jakes is has not done. He can be a National voice with a platform for understanding and acceptance and his signature, healing ministry. I have one word of advice to the Jake family, this is not something that you can pray away. The more you try to conceal/hide/contain
it, the more it will demand expression.
I am having difficulty ,Who said anything about a sexual orientation here, only an accucation or allegation of indecent exposure, plus my question is from my reading of the report that was published said nothing about his pants being unsipped but that there was an observation of his penis being erected thru his pants.If this is the report of the encounter and it is accurate how do we come up with all the other conclusions,mr swan 2693 how did you get into the picture and God is using you and Bishop Jakes to do anything concerning these issues. Let us first have compassion, with any issue , call into accountability yes, but not by personal assessment before facts, consider yourself and do not put your family member in this when it is not your call.

Below is the text of an arrest warrant affidavit filed by Dallas Police detectives on Jermaine Jakes.

"Detective, X a fellow peace officer of the City of Dallas, Dallas County, Texas, who personally participated in the investigation of this alleged offense, providing this information affiant believes to be credible.
NARRATIVE:
On January 3, 2009, at about 10:10pm, Detectives X, and X, of the Dallas Police Department Vice Unit, were working in an undercover capacity at 2106 W. Kiest Blvd in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas.
Detectives X, and X were conducting an investigation regarding citizen complaints of sexual activity occurring at Kiest Park located at 2106 W. Kiest Blvd. Detectives X and X both parked their vehicles in the parking lot on the east side of the park. Detectives X and X observed suspect Jakes and several other unknown males park their vehicles in the parking lot. Detective X observed suspect Jakes enter the wooded area. Suspect Jakes remained in the wooded area for several minutes.
Detective X and Detective X entered the wooded area. Suspect Jakes walked directly over to where Detective X was, and stood next to Detective X with his penis exposed through his unzipped pants.
Suspect Jakes then began to masturbate his erect penis whi his left hand for several seconds while making eye contact with Detective X. After Detective X made a case, Detective X who was standing nearby in view, was signaled that a case had been made. Suspect Jakes masturbated his erect penis in order to gratify himself and Detective X.
Suspect Jakes made no attempt to conceal his erect penis from Detective X, or any other person who might be offended by his actons. There were people walking and jogging at the park on the jogging trail next to the wooded area during the time of this offense. Detectives X and X both identified themselves as Dallas Police Officers. Detectives X and X followed suspect Jakes to his vehicle where a valid Texas Drivers License was obtained for positive identification.
Suspect Jakes was photographed and released pending an at large case filing for Indecent exposure.
Suspect Jakes committed the offense of indecent exposure by exposing his erect penis in a public place with his intent to gratify or arouse the sexual desire of himself. Suspect Jakes was reckless about whether another was present who would be offended or alarmed by his actions. This offense occured in Dallas, Dallas county Texas."

I would like to know if the term 'step' son was ever used before when referring to jermaine jakes?
I would like to thank Pastor T.D. Jakes for stating that they don't preach they are the solution, but look for resolution. I and my family are going thru a legal battle ourselves with our only child. It is so hurtful to find out that when something like this happens to your family; your own family, your friends, your close confidants seem to dissappear and right away say "guilty". There is not one of us on this earth that is exempt from issues like this or others. God did not give any of us perfect children. He allows things like this to come about to grab our attention, focus, what ever the reason, God is in control and will speak on our behalf in His time. So please Pastor T.D. Jakes and family, keep the faith, trust in God's word as you always have and march on to Victory, because I know I am. I may not have my family backing me, my friends helping me pray, but that's alright, I got Father God, Jesus and The Holy Spirit on my side and that is all that matters to me. I have the power of 3.
Bishop TD Jakes should be ashamed of his son I would. How can he rule God's house when his son is OPENLY Gay not just someone who is struggling with a sin but his sin is open. I read a article that said his son was at a gay bar when mega feast was going on. That's said and God is not in on that. God is opening these once bible teaching preachers up who have fallen away from the word of God teaching a false doctrine. I love TD and prayers go out to him. But he needs to go back to word and not please the public to get wealth.
I'm sure T. D. Jakes knew his son was gay, but I don't think we should have expected him to expose that. We don't know how this Man at one point Kid felt growing up know ing that Jakes was not his biological father. I'm not saying that Bishop was not good to him, but once they (meaning Bishop and Serita) began having their own children, you don't know how this little boy was perceiving this. I saw his sons on with him on tv a few years ago, and i could tell he had effeminate ways. We don't know what the parents have done to help him deal with his Sin (we all got a sin we battle with, his is just more visible).
I thank you for sending healing. I will continue to pray, not just for my family, Bishop Jakes family, but also swan2693's family. I acknowledge that you are the creator and all soverign, the giver of wisdom, knowledge and understanding. I realize that my prayer life and language is a means to communicate. Provide us with insight to be delivered of our own leaking issues, thereby when we are strengthen, we can strengthen our brothers.
Its a pity that the world is at this time accusing Bishop of homophobia(which is a plus to God's name in Bishop's life) and some supposed christians are also accusing him of not being a good father. we are all humans with weaknesses, and Bishop summed it all, he is an adult (accountable before man and God for himself) and he is not God to make his child perfect. Remember even Christ had a Judas, that should let us know that nobody can lead or parent without the will of the child's or follower's involvement. God bless Bishop and help his family out of this. Also I pray that the son get out of the evil in his life, which is an attack from the devil.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it'll do even better in those areas, but for now it's a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod's strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.
