Some years ago, Kate Smith of God Bless America fame was in a boat on a bay when suddenly a dense fog settled on the bay. Visibility was zero. Their situation was perilous! They feared that a seaward undertow might sweep them into the ocean and death.
Kate said to her friends, "There is a promise in the Bible which says, 'That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven' (Matthew 18:19)."
United, they called upon Jesus to save them, as did the imperiled disciples long ago: "Lord, save us: we perish." Soon a vessel plowed through the fog and saved them.
The Saviour's promise has not been rescinded: "What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them" (Mark 11:24).
God has many un-asked-for blessings awaiting our asking. "For every one that asketh receiveth" (Matthew 7:7).
God delights to bestow the best of gifts upon His children: "No good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly" (Psalm 84:11).
So many of us forfeit God's blessings because we fail to ask for them: "Ye have not, because ye ask not (James 4:2).
Thou art coming to a King,
Large petitions with thee bring,
For His grace and pow'r are such,
None can ever ask too much!
