The reigning Miss California has gone to Washington to help launch a campaign opposing same-sex marriage.
Carrie Prejean told NBC's "Today" show Thursday that she'll be working with the National Organization for Marriage to "protect traditional marriages."
The 21-year-old says that marriage is "something that is very dear to my heart" and she's in Washington to help save it.
She says many people have thanked her for standing up for traditional marriage.
Prejean was named the first runner-up to Miss North Carolina in the Miss USA pageant April 19. Her response to celebrity blogger Perez Hilton's question about legalizing same-sex marriage may have cost her the title.

I am in total agreement with Miss California. I applaud her for her courage in speaking out against same sex marriage. Homosexuals want to legalize their right to abominable sex practices that brought down judgement on Sodom and Gomorrah in the book of Genesis 19th chapter (KJV). If "they" want to have sex, male with male and female with female, they are going to do it. Why should the courts validate their abomination. Rapist like to rape their victims. Should their sexual inclination be legalized? No more so than homosexuals and lesbians. America was founded under Judeo Christian values and God made us a great nation. We should not let sex be the motivating factor behind laws that are made. Sodomites and lesbians have come out of the closet and into our face trying to make this nation defy Holy God. Our economy need God's help to recover. We don't need the homosexuals or lesbians to do nothing but get back in the closet or get right with God.
