Reaction on Vick's Deal

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

"People around the world are disappointed that the Eagles have chosen to sign a guy who hung dogs from trees, electrocuted them with jumper cables, held them under water until they drowned, even threw his own family dogs into the fighting ring with the pit bulls. You've got to wonder what kind of message this sends to young people who care about animals and don't want to see them be harmed. We hope Vick has learned his lesson, we hope he feels remorseful for his crimes, but there's not a lot of public indication that that's the case. At this point, only time will tell."

- Dan Shannon, spokesman for PETA

"Mike Vick is a great football player. He deserves to be in the place where he's wanted. And a place where he can get better, adjust and work on his game to get ready to play."

- Baltimore Ravens' Ed Reed

"I am happy, everyone deserves a second chance. It's unfortunate that so many people out there saying that he doesn't deserve a chance to make a living. Put a camera in your life and see what you are doing. A guy made a mistake; he paid his dept to society. He spent two years in jail, what more do you want him to do? Now he has to come back to society and make a living and making a living means playing football"

"I think Philadelphia made a smart move. Now he can sit behind Donnovan (McNabb) and learn some more. Hopefully they keep him at quarterback. That's what he is; I guarantee you he is better than 95% of the quarterbacks that are starting in this league right now."

- Baltimore Ravens' Derrick Mason

"I don't think (anybody) wanted to see him in our division, but he is here and I am happy for him and for him to get a second chance to get in this league and play.

"I am just happy for him. (I am) happy he gets a second chance to go out there and show everybody he can still do it.

"It was long overdue. I definitely feel like he paid his dept to society. Other guys (have) done a lot worse things than (he did) and they have been reinstated or been in the league quicker than Mike. I am just happy he gets a second chance to prove to everybody that he is remorseful for the things he's done and is ready to move on."

- Washington Redskins' DeAngelo Hall

"Commissioner Roger Goodell and the Philadelphia Eagles have granted Michael Vick a second chance, and the ASPCA expects Mr. Vick to express remorse for his actions, as well as display more compassion and sound judgment this time around than he did during his previous tenure with the NFL. We hope that Mr. Vick uses his stature for the betterment of the community and the advancement of the issue of animal cruelty."

- Ed Sayres, President and CEO of The ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals)
