"World War Me" by Dr. Jamal Harrison-Bryant Keeps It Real

| 30 Comments | No TrackBacks

world-war-me.jpgYou are your own worst enemy. Jamal Harrison-Bryant came to this realization after a series of unfortunate events took place in his life in which he made some wrong decisions--decisions that cost him his integrity and his testimony for Christ.

Bryant, after doing an honest heart search, was led to write World War Me in which he confesses: "While I was a college student at Morehouse, one of my mentors expressed to me, "You have only two things in life: your image and your integrity." Regrettably, I only listened to half of what he said. I digested the part on image but discarded the part about integrity."

World War Me is the unapologetic and repentant approach to honest self-reflection of a truly broken man of God. As transparent as he can be, Bryant uses the time of brokenness in his life to show you how to overcome self-defeat.

So, now he wants to make a profit off of his poor life decisions? Isn't that just like a pulpit-pimp?!! Who wants to pay to read his flesh-induced lust cravings and where they left him? No, he lost his integrity and still doesn't have any....what a shame!

Folks kill me wanting to make merchandise off folks based on their poor life choices. He is an adult man who made some adult decisions; I don't need to pay him to read about them, the news was wrought with his flesh-driven lusts. A man of integrity wouldn't need to sell his story; if he is truly regenerated, why should it cost another to know about it?

Forgiveness is Christian and forgive we must. But forgiveness is cheap grace when it costs so little. Repentance for this preacher is to turn away from the spotlight in order to do ministry in a monastery or in Africa, not African America. Sell all your goods and feed the poor; feed somebody other than self.

Forgiveness comes at the cost of true remorse. What is required of Bryant now is to do nothing less than to give all the proceeds from this book toward the restoration of health in our African American churches and communities that lie in decay, namely the city where his Temple sits. In fact, this book may be his own worst enemy, especially if its financially successful.

The preacher's vocation is mud when reverends are not in pursuit of the inaugural vision outlined by Jesus in Luke 4. That's what Bryant's book should be about. Black communities die partly due to the avarice, arrogance, and apathy of clerics who seemingly have it all materially but are in fact spiritually anemic, keeping the people at the mercy of their eloquence "silver tongues" instead shepherding people into the presence of God.

The war is within; but humility is the fruit of the wounded who claim to love God and are willing to strive to keep God's commandments.

I'll read the book with great interest and to critique it! I'm sure it will be fodder for my own book. I'm praying for the success of your soul Bryant to go along with the success of your book.

every human is subject to error. only one man that walked this earth had no error in Him. forgiveness is one thing, but trust after error must be earned. Jesus gave us practical principles to apply to our lives. To often there is to much "hype"[get the people exited] from the pulpit rather than practical principles of wisdom out of the word of god that should be TAUGHT so that the people of God learn to gain victory in life. Grow up young man

I agree with Kenyatta and Elle. As a senior pastor of a church, I have seen it happen too often to pastors. I won't call him a pulpit pimp. He is still a professing Christian and believer. He is one of my brothers. If it wasn't for the grace of God, that could be any Christian. Amen! Sure we can forgive him. Sure we know that all people make mistakes and commit sins. Sure we know that no one is perfect. But let me teach it from the bible. The bible teaches that, "to whom much is given, much is required." The bible teaches in St. James 1:22, "do not desire to be many masters / teachers (leaders in the church), for they shall receive the greater condemnation." That condemnation is NOT only from people but it also from God. I have followed and financially supported Pastor Harrison in the past. But I believe that God holds pastors to a higher degree then the lay persons in the church. Pastoring is one of the greatest divine callings from God. We speak as prophets and shepherds of and to God's children. My question is, how can pastor Bryant tell me or anyone else in a book or in a sermon to hold out against sin as the spiritual leader, when he has ALEGEDLY given into sexual temptation, fathered children outside of wedlock, and then committed adultery. Mind you, it is the calling of the pastor to give realistic HOPE to God's people. It is the calling of God's pastor to teach and lead God's flock by word and EXAMPLE, according to 1st Peter 5:1-4. I love him as a brother but I cannot agree with his book if it is to make a profit. I believe Pastor Harrison should step down from pastoring. He has forfeited THAT position. BUT It doesn't mean that he can't serve God in other capacities. If he really loves God, he will step down and become an advocate of sexual purity and true integrity (honesty) and image towards God, not HIMSELF. God forgives all those who truly repent and turn from their wicked ways but there are CONSEQUENCES for our actions and decisions. I pray that my brother in the Lord would honor God and step down. If he steps down now, God won't have to judge him no further than what he has already done in his past. BUT.....If he stays any longer, he will hinder God's ministry and he will possibly deter others from the church. Then God will judge him MORE HARSHLY. Again, I love him as a brother. I will continue to pray for him. But his past will hinder NOT only his future but even others. Something to think about.

Guys,we should lift him up in prayers instead of being so judgemental. Let us search ourselves as well. Let us not forget the reason christ died on the cross.

Amen! We all have sinned and come short of the glory of God...

As much as, and as good a speaker as he was, it was just weak and stupid to make the choices he made. I'm not judging him, but how do you preach the word with the enthusiasm and professionalism that he exhibited and it doesn't sink in? Shame, shame, shame. I hope he comes back stronger, but I won't buy the book. I might read it after it gets in the library.

If a brother be overtaken in a fault ye which are spiritual restore such a one in the spirit of meekness;

Dr. Bryant should share what he's learned so others can avoid the same rock-star like pitfalls that he fell into. I'm happy with his candor - if more people were honest about their falls we wouldn't have so many naive Christians.

Pastors should not profit from their blatant actions. How many more Pastors that are doing the same thing, and have remorse about their actions? I know one in particular that believes God call him to Pastor regardless of his lies and adultery. I hate to say it, but some men placed in leadership position use their position to gain wealth and to seek out self-gratification. Too many lives are being affected by men of the cloth that continue to sleep with women in their own congregation. Lord will forgive if true repentence (psalms 51) but some believe their invincible. My prayer that no man should profit based on bad decisions, and that he step down to avoid condemnation on the congregation. It starts from the head and trickles down to the congregation. Divorces, adultery and other sin can be contributed to the sins of the Pasotr or shepherd. I had to leave my church because the Pastor decided that having an affair with me was better than solving my issues. This happens too often in our black churches and it must stop (but start with the Pastor/leaders) that suppose to keep us covered. Lord please forgive us.

I can not believe some of you religious people and some of your comments! I say religious because ANYONE that has a REAL relationship with God would not be so judgemental and unforgiving as you all are being. FIRST OF ALL as unforgiving as you all are being you would think the man commented the sin against you. As David said I have sinned against YOU (God) and You (God) alone! He doesn't need to apologize to us because he didn't sin against us. So all of you Pastors, Saints, and Religious folk STOP acting you actually have a heaven or hell to put this man in. SECOND...the ONLY difference between Jamal Bryant and the rest of us is that HIS business ended up all over the newspaper and the street. OMG!!! ALL OF YOU PASTORS CALLING FOR HIM TO STEP DOWN, IF WE ALL SAW WHAT YOU DID IN THE PAST OR CURRENTLY DOING EVERYONE IN YOUR CHURCH WOULDN'T CALL FOR YOU TO STEP DOWN BUT THEY WOULD THROW YOU OUT ON YOUR TAIL LIKE JAZZ FROM FRESH PRINCE. The only difference between J. Bryant and you is that no one knows you! And no one cares what you do except for the small fish that are currently in your small pond.

I think that Jamal Bryant is doing an EXCELLENT service to the kingdom!! He is doing what a LOT of religious folk would not, will not, and cannot do. And that is being transparent and sharing with others his mistakes so others will not make the same mistakes. This is excellent for young preachers and pastors who are coming up. Because there are pastors who are coming up in this new generation that are building churches bigger than ever before, and because of ALL the VARIOUS medias, they are getting more exposure than ever before. God chose one man to go out and fall and come back and to show us what NOT to do and how to do it right. Even though what happened to Bryant was unfortunate I thank God that he used someone to show me the pitfalls of a successful ministry. Now that's the spiritual aspect...for all those that have a problem with him making money off of his "sins" well let me bring all of you religious folk down from the 9th level of heaven and let's think practical for a minute. IT TAKES TIME AND MONEY TO PUBLISH AND DISTRIBUTE A BOOK!! So his message would never get out like it should if he gave it away for free like you overly religious people want him to do. Yes we are to inspect each other's fruit and help each other not to fall into the pit, and build each other up. BUT WHAT MORE DOES THIS MAN HAVE TO DO!! Now we are entering into the realm of "judge not lest ye be judged"! All you pastors out there that should know the Word SHOULD know that when God forgives us HE restores us back to where we were before...so if God can forgive and restore why can't as followers of Christ restore our brother? I'm going to say this...HELL IS GOING TO BE FILLED WITH RELIGIOUS FOLK WHO PUT UP A GOOD FRONT...WHO HAVE A GOOD IMAGE BUT NO INTREGRITY! Trying to make themselves seem like they are so perfect to the point where NO ONE can relate to them. In other words, Hell is going to enlarge itself so it can house all the perfect, sinless, merciless, religious, saints!

You're in no position to judge! Watch your words and keep it positive... If you don't like the book, DO NOT BUY IT! Why waste your valuable time sharing your opinion that is of no value? Focus on becoming better and let those invest their money to where they feel it is best allocated. I guess you are one of those who need some attention, so here you go...lol!!!

Wow, do we read the bible, do we know who King David is? A man after God's own heart! Did God require or ask David to step down after he fell many times, to some of the same sins that this man have fallen? The bible says the gifts and callings of God are without repentance. God doesnt change his mind about you just because you fall short. Thats all

Yes we all have sinned but ministers and preachers have a higher calling and judgement from God.

"What sorrow awaits the leaders of my people--the shepherds of my sheep--for they have destroyed and scattered the very ones they were expected to care for," says the LORD" Jer.23:1

It is amazing to me that he still has a great following.

Iam disapointed in some negative comments on the past of this guy, they seems to lack understanding of purpose of his action.I see his confesions as a way of letting people know they are responsible for their actions and to let the learn from his mistakes and as a prodigal son who had grace to decide and turn back to God he should be applauded and not condemned.

I must say this to Dr. Bryant:
Sir,
You are an excellent ministry gift from God and I enjoy the preached word that God allows you to share. I am a minister and potential Pastor. In the last 3 years of my life, I have learned more of what not to do in ministry. I will be purchasing your book because anything that I can learn before I actually step into the office of Pastor, I want to learn it. It doesn't matter if it is from someone elses errors or faults. Anyway that God can teach me, I am willing and eager to learn. Just as I can learn from the mistakes of the great men in the Bible (David and Samson), I can learn from great men outside of the Bible. My sincere heartfelt prayers are with you (and all of our great leaders that have fallen in the Body of Christ)man of God and your family. I do not agree nor condone the sin but the price that you will pay is at God's disposal not mine or anyone else to decide or judge. We that are without sin, cast the first stone. If the truth be told, many of us religious folk are also living in glass houses. May God continue to heal your spirit and may this book be a warning to others.

Praise the Lord. I know that it look like he is making a profit. But maybe he is putting that money into something that you or I don't know about. I don't know if you are a Christian or not but his book is going to help so many people. Because the biggest mistake the Saints make is we through people away that has fallen. However that is not what the Word of God tells us to do. We are suppose to build them back up with our prayers and support. If we did what we were suppose to do, do you know how many David's, Moses's,Jacob's and Peter's we would have in the Body of Christ. Its easy to stand in judgement when you've never fallen. Be Blessed

I am so disappointed at the number of christians that have refused to forgive this man. Can I take you all back to John12 vs 1-8?? The scribes and pharisees were ready to stone the adulterous woman to death and Jesus' response was....we all know what Jesus said to them. He didn't ask them if she had truly repented, He didn't tell her to go serve in a monastry in Africa or whatever other ridiculous suggestion I've read. He told her to go and sin no more. At least the scribes and pharisees were ready to admit that they weren't without sin and they all walked away. What we have here is the complete opposite. The religious folk are throwing stones and feeling all pious and holy about it. May God have mercy on us all!!

This man didn't come out with any excuses. He held his hands up an said he did it and was sorry. If you do not believe his apology that's of no issue. You're not his creator. If anyone feels he's not truly repentant that's between him and His God. We may be children of the most High but who made us judge and ruler over others? If God decides to restore him what's that to anybody? Are we going to question the decisions of the Almighty? Are we going to ask God to Bless people according to our standards? And what would these standards be? Isaiah 64 vs 6 says our righteousnesses are like a filthy rags. God restored David and the Messiah came from David's line inspite of David's short-comings. Jesus forgave the woman in John 8. If it were not for the grace of God where would we all be? Why do we act like we earned our salvation?

Father God your word says in 1John 1 vs 9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness". Lord I pray for Jamal Bryant, you see his heart, remember your word as you look on his life. Father also grant him the ability to stand firm in the midst of all the harsh words from fellow christians. And for the rest of us, Lord teach us to be more like you.

It's obvious that from reading all the judgemental comments that the folks writing them have not read the book. The book does not glorify nor defend his actions, actually they are barely mentioned. The book speaks directly on how to overcome personal struggles. Before we comment, perhaps we should read what we are commenting about.

In life we all have struggles! The enemy doesent care about who you are or your position. This just shows that everyone has a path in life they have to walk down. This is the cross that he has to bear. If he never had experienced what he did, how could he minister to people who are struggling with the things he struggled with. Too many people are quoting scripture that fit other peoples mistakes but what I want to know is what scripture would describe your life? I have one that fits us all! All have sinned and come short of the Glory of God! Yes this means you too saints, believers,Pastors, non believers,mr or mis holy than all of God's creation! People if we have no examples of supporting people when they fall how will we learn? This is what's wrong with the church! Too much condeming and not enough restoring! I don't want to be a part of a ministry who wouldn't help me get back to my right mind in Christ! You forgot Christ loved you in the midst of your sins! Remember when your life was stinking in His nostril's He still sent His Son to the cross for you! You forget that! People get it together! This is about Christ not you or your panel of judges!

We all have sin and fallen short of the glory of God. We have to forgive him and move on. The difficult thing about all of this is that he is over a congregation of people whose souls are precious to God. Too many Pastors are falling hard in the kingdom of God and they continue to preach. The spirit of Lust is rampant. We must sincerely pray for our leaders. Unfortunately, these issues with Lust are not new. Keep praying and DO NOT attribute to God the failures of man. He made his own choices. In the future, when you watch his life, consider that some of these things could happen again. And when you see them happen, pray and ask God for mercy over your own life. It is so hard to pastor and be in the limelight. There are so many things pulling at you and when things aren't right at home, we are prone to stray. My mom always told me, if you want to see a pastor's true success, look at this wife.

1 Question Was King David called?Did he commit adultry?Do you read the psalm written by david?Do they bless you.If i can be allowed to say this "this means you are reading the psalms of an adulter.well we a quick to judge!

WOW! It's not about paying to hear his mistakes, its about learning how not to make the same mistakes and what it takes to redeem yourself, if you find yourself in the same dilema!

Advanced information is the best information. What you've heard on television is what outsiders wanted to bring forth.

Dr. Bryant is showing great intregrity releasing the truth to help somebody else.

Those who stood as his Armor Bearers, Adjutants, Prayer Warriors... you dropped the ball! You should have been praying for your leader instead of holding his briefcase, standing as his physical body guard instead of his spiritual guard and covering up what you saw wasn't right.

It just disappoints me how so called "Christians" are so judgemental!! Yes, his sin got EXPOSED but it was only for the glorification of God. You never know when it is going to be your day. So many souls are being saved and lives being changed based off of Jamals actions because his situation is proving that GOD IS REAL AND HE DONT PLAY. No I do not agree of any of his sins, but maybe in order for him to live the way God wanted him, God had to expose him in this way. People please watch out because you are not perfect and know when God get tired of you and your sins he is probably going to do the same thing to you to maybe in a different way or format. Regarding his book, it is an awesome book to read. Some people were saying that he shouldnt sell the book, but my Lord, people sell other ungodly stuff in and outside of the kingdom and no one opens their mouth. Now on the otherhand, I would see if after all this stuff, Dr. Bryant was still sleeping around and having babies out of wedlock and all this other foolishness, then I could see why some have their opinions. Also, to be honest, he preaches better now then he has ever! So I would rather for a man of God to go through hell and come out delivered lead me than a man who has not gone through nothing, but still sleeping with the people in the congregations or etc..... Yall its alot more men of God out here doing much more things... Lets pray for them all and stop stomping them and spreading rumors and blogs about them!!!!! Dr. Bryant I pray blessings on you and your family. Whatever that God has for you in the future reach up and grab it. Most of all, I honor you because you are still there for your girls despite the situation. Most men, leave their wife and neglect their kids, but I see you are still in there lives strong. What a MAN you are. You are in my PRAYERS.

So Judgemental we are ! Never considering the personal relationship between him and God. who are we to speak or judge anyone . God never called us into position of deciding ones fate or even speaking for God he can speak for himself . He is his son like we are all his sons and daughters . We must be careful with how we use our tongue, there comes a time in every persons especially a christian , That God must break us in order to rebuild us regardless of our positions . sometimes he will break us in front of others so we are reminded. Leaders are humans and only annointed leaders God has called. Enabling us to remember to seek God not man and we will never be guided wrong . We have made leaders some what our God like they are to never make mistakes(we are sadly mistaken) so God has to allow or expose our weakness in front of others so we can only see God as perfect not man. So if God called has called the leader. How can we ever verify this ! we can't ! Then how can we speak for God or say what the leader should do. Leave it in the hands of God let God speak ,. We are to just pray God's will . Stay humble and remember we are humans and we look to God to complete and remake how he sees fit. we must be careful not to be become like or like Jesus said. Woe to you! You Pharisees! spoken from a person who "was" religious. God is soveirgn he can do what he wants. How do we know this was not apart of God's plan or will to possibly save a soul through the leader's failure. For we cannot speak unless God tells us too. Be carfeul your or our time could come when God deals with us exposing our own weaknesses. If we think we are right with God and cannot find anything wrong with us or have not judged our own selves lately . Then our own heart has deceived us! Very dangerous. If we are capable of wrong and think we can never do wrong because we are Gods'people and we have a relationship with christ ! Then we are deceived and the enemy is really winning. Oh how he loves to keep us decieved in heart! We must continually check our course . When we do that we stay humble and when another falls . We are passionate to pick him up and not speak (but pray) .Because in the end who are we. We all are flawed(even leaders) God calls the simple and the lowly)we depend on him and he transform us little by little. And until christ comes back then we are completed. God bless you .. Love you in christ.

WHAT THE DEVIL MENT FOR BAD HE TURNED IT FOR "GOOD" TAKE THAT DEVIL!!! LAUGHING AT THE DEVIL!!! Dr. Bryant keep on going, thank you for helping me. (I know i can keep going) but with the jugemental people on here, they would make people like me quit! LIKE I TELL THE DEVIL "SHUT UP"!

There is an interesting amount of negative responses here. It was only to generate a positive. Very clever.

brother,I have learned that God forgives but people seem not to,keep the faith and know that your ministry is a very good thing to a dying world, praise God.I too was on the road to distruction at a very young age.At age 20 I was sent to Angola prison in louisiana with a 20 year sentence but what satan meant for eveil God turned to good.I thank my LORD and Savior Jesus Christ for His love, grace and mercy. You are anointed and a blessing, thank you for listening to the LORD.I could tell many stories of how far men would go following the enemy and what people think.WE are truely blessed and yes,God deserves all of our praise, more actually.Anyway,I spent 14 years and 8 months in there but I have been free almost 14 years now.

Hey how are you doing? I just wanted to stop by and say that it's been a pleasure reading your blog. I have bookmarked your website so that I can come back & read more in the future as well. plz do keep up the quality writing
