A California dog advocacy group caring for dogs formerly owned by Eagles QB Michael Vick expressed disappointment that he declined to visit with the dogs when the team plays in Oakland this week.
The AP reports that the Bay Area Doglovers Responsible About Pitbulls invited Vick to visit with eight dogs involved in the dogfighting operation Vick was convicted of being involved in.
Tim Racer, the group's co-founder, told the AP he wanted Vick to visit with the animals from safe distance that would not violate his parole terms that bar him from being near animals.
Said Racer:
"We understand Vick is trying to right his wrongs and is very interested in redemption, but you can't find redemption without acknowledging your victims," Racer said. "Making amends to the dogs themselves would have helped to create some closure for many of us, especially those people who worked so hard to keep them from being destroyed. It seems that Vick is not ready to go there."
