A bomb threat at the downtown church where Detroit City Council
candidate Andre Spivey is pastor disrupted regular services Sunday,
police said.
The Detroit Police Department received the call claiming there were explosives in St. Paul AME Church, 2260 Hunt, around 8:50 a.m., department spokesman John Roach said. However, bomb-detecting K9 units didn't find anything in the church.
Because they weren't allowed in the building, congregants held their weekly 10 a.m. worship in the parking lot, Spivey said. They were allowed back into the building around noon.
"I hope it's not politically motivated," Spivey said.
