Larry Johnson's Father: Son's Use of Gay Slur is Unacceptable

Larry Johnson's father said he was angry and shocked by his son's use of gay slurs with reporters inside the Chiefs locker room on Monday.

"That's just not who we are and not what we believe," Larry Johnson Sr. told the  Kansas City Star of his son. "It's not how he was raised.

"It's tough for me as a father."

The younger Johnson apologized on Tuesday for using a gay slur when reporters approached him in the locker room on Monday. The team then asked him to stay away from practice and team activities while it and the league conducts a review of his actions (which included belittling coach Todd Haley on Twitter).

Johnson Sr., the defensive line coach at Penn State, told the Star that intolerant words were "just not tolerated" in his home when Larry was young.
