NJ Pastor Asks Feds to Probe School Dance Fight

deforest-soaries.jpgOne of New Jersey's prominent black ministers has asked the U.S. Justice Department to examine a fight that broke out at a central Jersey high school dance.

Police arrested five adults, including three parents, and seven juveniles at Franklin High School's homecoming dance Friday.

Police say the fight started when one student tried to re-enter after leaving, which is against school policy. Police say the student shoved a police officer.

Students and parents say police beat students and used pepper spray. However, authorities say only one student suffered a bruised calf and five police officers were injured in the scuffle.

The Rev. DeForest "Buster" Soaries (SOR'-eez) says the racial makeup of the police and those apprehended raises questions.

The Somerset County prosecutor is investigating.
