Two days after the video of a Houston Police Officer using racist words and foul language towards a Houston club promoter circulated on Twitter, community activist, Quanell X is asking HPD to terminate the officer.
Saturday night, graduates of Prairie View A & M set out to celebrate at Hush nightclub in Katy. An apparent fight broke out during the celebration and which lead to one of the registers being stolen with all of the commotion going on, along with two innocent bystanders being trampled and injured. Having lost a great deal of money with the register being stolen, Top Dawg Entertainment promoter, Corey LeDay, questioned the officer, who's name has yet to be released, that was working as security for the nightclub about the register and how is was able to be stolen with them controlling the crowd. Unaware that he was being filmed by another promoter, Steven Bentham, the HPD Officer (also African American) proceeded to express his disappointment with the crowd being at the Katy area nightclub by calling the African American patrons n*****s. Continuing with his rant, the Officer told LeDay, "f**k your money and f**k Prairie View A&M" - all with a grin of satisfaction on his face while disrespecting the gentleman.
During the unedited ten minute-thirty-nine second video, LeDay is seen very upset with losing close to "$30,000". The Officer not believing that much was lost, tells them that "the young lady who was running the cash register got f***ing trampled, okay? So the bottom line is, I mean really, just f**k yo money, it really don't matter. So f**k yo money. F**k Prairie View! Because you know what? The m***af**kas sholdn't have been here to begin with. Because the same m****af**kin s**t happened the last time. M****f***kin n****ers don't know how to act. Thats the bottom f***king line".
That officer has since apologized in this written statement:
"I deeply regret the poor choice of words that I used during a heated conversation in the club office with the promoter of the event. The event had gotten out of control when a large, unruly crowd overwhelmed club security personnel at the club entrance. Members of the crowd stole a cash register after trampling a female employee, sending her and other innocent people to the hospital. I allowed my frustration to get the best of me when the promoter seemed only concerned about his lost profit, and not the welfare and safety of the innocent people who were injured. Even though others had used the offensive phrase in prior conversations, I should not have allowed myself to respond in kind. I do not feel that the use of such language is acceptable under any circumstances, and I apologize."
The story has since aired on Fox 26 News with reporter Isiah Carey on Monday and Tuesday. On Tuesday evening, Carey has reported that the officer is being investigated, who again has yet to be named, by the HPD internal affairs.
