In her film (and acting) debut Gabourey Sidibe received a best actress in a drama nomination for her performance as the title character. Actress Mo'Nique also received a nod for best supporting actress in a drama.
The Golden Globes are among the film industry's highest honor and have proven to be a strong predictor of the Academy Award nominations and wins.
In related news, The African-American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) has named "Precious" as the best picture of 2009, helmer Lee Daniels as its best director and Mo'Nique as best supporting actress.
