A beleaguered Gov. Paterson went looking for a friendly crowd Sunday, and he found one in the Brooklyn church of a top political supporter.
Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries, one of Paterson's most ardent defenders, said he rolled out the welcome mat at his Cornerstone Baptist Church in Bedford-Stuyvesant at the governor's request.
"The governor reached out and indicated he wanted to worship," Jeffries told the Daily News. "He thought it was an opportunity for us to pray for him ...and pray for the State of New York during a very challenging time."
Recent polls show that New Yorkers remain split over whether Paterson should resign, although his support remains strongest among African-American voters, like those who filled the pews yesterday at Cornerstone.
