Last week, the conservative broadcaster Glenn Beck called on Christians to leave their churches if they hear preaching about social or economic justice, saying they were code words for Communism and Nazism.
This week the remarks prompted outrage from several Christian bloggers. The Rev. Jim Wallis, who leads the liberal Christian antipoverty group Sojourners, in Washington, called on Christians to leave Glenn Beck.
"What he has said attacks the very heart of our Christian faith, and Christians should no longer watch his show," Mr. Wallis wrote on his blog, God's Politics. "His show should now be in the same category as Howard Stern."
In attacking churches that espouse social justice, Mr. Beck is taking on most mainline Protestant, Roman Catholic, black and Hispanic congregations in the country -- not to mention plenty of evangelical churches and even his own, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Mr. Beck said on his radio show on March 2, "I beg you, look for the words 'social justice' or 'economic justice' on your church Web site. If you find it, run as fast as you can. Social justice and economic justice, they are code words."
"Am I advising people to leave their church? Yes! If I am going to Jeremiah Wright's church," he said, referring to President Obama's former pastor in Chicago. "If you have a priest that is pushing social justice, go find another parish. Go alert your bishop."
Religion scholars say the term "social justice" was probably coined in the 1800s, codified in encyclicals by successive popes and adopted widely by Protestant churches in the 1900s. The concept is that Christians should not merely give to the poor, but also work to correct unjust conditions that keep people poor. Many Christians consider it a recurring theme in Scripture.
Mr. Beck himself is a convert to Mormonism, a faith that identifies itself as part of the Christian family, but is nevertheless rejected by many Christians.
Philip Barlow, the Arrington professor of Mormon history and culture at Utah State University, said, "One way to read the Book of Mormon is that it's a vast tract on social justice."
"A lot of Latter-day Saints would think that Beck was asking them to leave their own church," he said.
Mr. Barlow said that just this year, the church's highest authority, the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, issued a new "Handbook of Instructions" in which they revised the church's "threefold mission" and added a fourth mission statement: Care for the poor.

There is a message of SJ as part of caring for the poor the comes with proclaiming the gospel compared with the SJ message that politicians expound that has kept black people bound in poverty via welfare checks. The SJ message that condemns the rich and is racially or politically laced is what every christian should not receive from any pastor or preacher irrespective of status. SJ as Glenn is accusing Obama admin. of is something that every well meaning black people and christians of all class or color should resist and run from, because it will destroy the prospect of this blessed country's continued prosperity. I will keep watching Glenn Beck though I don't agree with everything he says, but he does have gut and understanding to connect the duct the main stream media won't even dare to report.
ICor.13 ... And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not love, it profiteth me nothing. Who is LOVE? GOD/Christ is.
Should I show my love by killing an unborn baby? Should I show my love by killing a baby after it's been born because I had planned for it to die (partial abortion) As a senator, it's what Obama voted that women should be allowed to do. Should I show my love by telling the homosexuality that his lifestyle is pleasing to God. Heaven forbid! If I don't stand up for God, I will fall for Satan every time. Thanks, Glenn, and God bless you for standing up for God's standards.
Error above: telling the homosexuality (Meant to say: homosexual)
Thanks, Glenn, for trying to help save the unborn children. Wouldn't want any of these races to become extinct. None of them...They were all created by God:
Percentage of people in the US:
67% European Americans
15% Hispanic Americans of any race (includes undocumented)
13% African Americans
4% Asian Americans(Chinese, Indians, etc.)
1% Native Americans
Glenn Beck - The Most Dangerous Man in Media
Cheryll A. Bellamy, Attorney and Pastor
Demagogues are the most dangerous people on the Planet Earth. One such demagogue is the persuasive Glenn Beck. The recent incendiary remarks by Beck should put every Christian on notice that here is a man whose character in many ways resembles Hitler's. Modern day history recoils at the mention of Hitler's name. However, it looks like Glenn Beck has taken up where Hitler left off. This assessment may sound caustic, but it doesn't come close to the noxious words of a man whose mission in life is to destroy democracy as we know it. Beck’s pedantic and ignorant platitudes of the constitution have given him a perverted view of democracy. The Machiavellian character of Beck should not be accepted with our eyes shut. It is a known fact that the Nazis established the faith movement of German Christians with the intention of encouraging fierce German nationalism and to undercut the biblical authority of Jesus Christ.
Beck hopes to encourage Christians to leave the churches that profess social justice. What Beck is really saying to all of us is to ignore the teachings of Jesus Christ. Glenn Beck is looking for followers to champion his cause. Hitler did the same thing during an economic crisis in the nation of Germany. One of the levels of the Nazi organizational structure was to promote the evils of Germany’s government through the venues of radio and newspapers. Sound familiar? Social injustice for Beck is another code word for helping the minorities, the poor, and the undesirables. Hitler’s enemies were called the Jews, the Gypsies, the African race, and the disabled. The goal of Hitler was to keep the German conscience paralyzed with a sedative of hope that one day the Aryan Race would rule the world. To be fair minded, history recognizes that there were those Germans who rejected Hitler's new Aryan government.
Glenn Beck elevates himself as an intellectual scholar on the Constitution. His belief is that America is becoming a socialist government inspired by Marx. The other belief is that our Constitution, written by our founding fathers, was divinely inspired by twenty-eight principles. Glenn Beck's beliefs have been influenced by W. Cleon Skousen, a Mormon scholar/theologian claiming to have visions from God about the twenty-eight principles which guided the writings of our founding fathers. He is the author of the book entitled, 5,000 Year Leap. This book is an anti-communist book with a touch of an apology on the divine position of our founding fathers. "Leap, first published in 1981, is a heavily illustrated and factually challenged attempt to explain American history through an unspoken lens of Mormon theology. A once-famous anti-communist ‘historian,’ Skousen was too extreme even for the conservative activists of the Goldwater era, but Glenn Beck has now rescued him from the remainder pile of history, and introduced him to a receptive new audience.” Much of Beck's teachings are in direct opposition to our Christian beliefs.
Hitler made a statement which can be analogous to why Beck crossed over into the religious sector: “By warding off the Jews, I am fighting for the Lord's work.” If you trace the history of demagogues, their first strategy is to control religious-minded people for a nationalistic cause which ends up being antithetical to the biblical causes of God, i.e. social justice. In Hitler’s time, Jewish discrimination was rooted in Christianity. “It has been said that arguably the hatred of the Jews with other races (African Americans and people of color) is the world's longest hatred.” (Harran, Marilyn, Ph.D., et al. The Holocaust Chronicle. Illinois: Lagacy Publishing, 2007. 18 )
The new church that Beck leads is FOX News Church. He has now been appointed to be their preacher. Beck is unscrupulous and cunning. He knowingly deliberates what will be his next talking point to further his methodology of propagandizing the American public. As long as Fox News Network condones Glenn Beck's antics and crazy misguided religious thinking, then the public must ask themselves the simple question, “What are the true motives of Fox News?” Common sense tells many Christians that the real culprit is Fox News. Christians who profess Jesus Christ must pro-actively not just denounce Glenn Beck but take every political and economic resource available to remove him. No one touches the apple of God's Eye- not even Glenn Beck.
I’d come to pass on with you here. Which is not something I typically do! I love reading a post that will make people think. Also, thanks for allowing me to comment!
