Larry Johnson is joining his third team in the last year.
The former Chiefs and Bengals RB signed with the Redskins on Friday.
That puts Johnson in a tandem with veteran Washington RB Clinton Portis. ESPN reported it's a three-year deal worth $3.5 million, with the potential to grow to $12 million in incentives.
"It's a dream come true," Johnson said. "Being from the Maryland area, I grew up watching the Redskins."
Said Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan, "We are excited to bring in a running back that has had so much success in this league. Larry is a physical runner who will be a great addition to our backfield."
Johnson, cut by the Chiefs in November, was expected to visit Oakland after meeting with the Redskins.
A two-time Pro Bowler, he rushed for 581 yards last year in 14 games with the Bengals and Chiefs.
