The latest news out of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is very troubling, to say the least.
A jaw-dropping 48 percent of black women between ages 14 and 49 have the virus which causes genital herpes, says the federal agency. Blacks in general are more than three times as likely as whites to have herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) (39.2 percent vs. 12.3 percent).
Why is it so much higher among black women? It is likely that biological factors make women more susceptible to genital herpes than men, says the CDC. American women in general are nearly twice as likely as men to be infected (21 percent vs. 11 percent). Then add on top of that socioeconomic factors that negatively affect blacks' general state of health, and it's no surprise that black women draw the short straw when it comes to getting genital herpes.
What's worse, most don't even know they've drawn that short straw. Up to 80 percent of genital herpes infections in the United States are undiagnosed. "Many individuals are transmitting herpes to others without even knowing it," said John M. Douglas Jr., director of CDC's division of STD prevention. "It is important that persons with symptoms suggestive of herpes-especially recurrent sores in the genital area-seek clinical care to determine if these symptoms may be due to herpes and might benefit from treatment."
Sores aren't the only sign you've been infected, and many people don't even experience them. Redness and itching are other symptoms, and the disease can still be transmitted without visible sores.
The high rate of genital herpes infections among blacks may contribute toward the high rate of HIV in the black community by making transmission easier, says the CDC.
So what do we do? If you know you have genital herpes, you definitely should avoid sex when symptoms or sores are present. Remember that genital herpes can still be transmitted when sores are not present. Using condoms consistently and correctly, and limiting the number of people you have sex with are also important to limiting the spread of the disease.

It is important to understand that the CDC is ONLY reporting stats among the poor and underemployed who are diagnosed at neighborhood clinics, who just happened to be Black. Most whites see private doctors or able go to other countries to get "treated" which often times go UN-REPORTED!
Regardless, of stats both Black women and Black men are wise to use condoms when engaging in sexual activities.

I do understand that Herpes and other STD virus is something that all sexes should want to try to be as prevenative as possible from becoming infected and infecting others. People are becoming more aware of the dangerous virus that's out here today and they are taking care of themselves. Let's do a survey about positivness in the African-American community as well!!!
Actually the statistic is that 48% of HSV carriers are Black Women, not that 48% of Black Women are HSV carriers. The last stats by the CDC from 2006 place the rate of infection among Black women at around 32%. Still high, above the general population rate of around 20%. And condoms can reduce transimission, but skin to active lesion or asymptomatic viral shedding contact still makes it risky. Best advice--abstinence.

Once again, another scare tatic for black women. Everyone knows the old saying "If you want to hide the truth from a black man, put it in a book. (Cause they dont read) If you want to hide the truth from a black woman, tell her a statistic.(cause she wont do her research)." Wow. Sad, to see how true this pathetic statement is.
A couple of months ago, there was a story on CNN, or somewhere, talking about the # of black women not being married. It showed beautiful, smart, successful black women- all available. It also spoke on how they were encouraged to "date out." Who's to say, that reports such as this is not a determent to prevent that from happening?
Also, there has been an increase awareness on discouraging black women from having children. In various parts of the South, there have been billboards stating "Black children are and endangered species."
People [blacks] really need to "wake up" and realize what going on. Witht he census right around the corner, "they" (and I'm sure you know who I'm referring to) will stop at nothing to make sure they we are a divided people, so "they" can use the division to destroy and wipe us off this Earth completely.

I would have to say I am very skeptical of these statistics and that I would have to see the hard numbers before taking any of this seriously. You don't know whether the CDC is saying half of all HSV-2 cases are Black women ages 14-49 or if they are say 1 in 2 of Black women ages 14-49 are infected. That would mean that more than 6 MILLION Black women have genital herpes when there are only about 36-40 million Black people in the country overall. I'm not buying this...
The Point of the Matter is not how many people have Herpes and other sickness,the main factor is that God's word is truth about the sickness and diseases that are on the rise and all goes back to the old testament. This is Absurd, the billboards are not trying to discourage black women from having babies. On the contrary... It's trying to encourage black women to give birth to their unborn children rather than abort them.

If you keep your legs closed like the Bible says you won't have herpes. It does not do anygood to blame the white man after you catch herpes, warts or Aids. You have to behave because the devil will get you and put sores all over your body if you decide to live a life of Ho-ing out of wedlock.

A few facts:
68% of black children are born out of wedlock.
75% of black children grow up in a one parent household
There are more black men 18-25 years old, in prison, on parole, have a warrant for their arrest, than there are in college.
48% of black women have herpes.
40% of Africa has HIV.
I think blacks and whites have a parent child relationship. Blacks being the children and whites the parents. Blacks claim everything they do that is bad is because of whites and racism, vestiges of slavery. For a long time I believed that.
Then one day I realized that there was not one black run country in the world that was not a disaster. Starving people, corrupt governments, murder, drug dealers....you name it.
When I taught in an inner city all black school, I came to the conclusion that nearly all of (95%) of the problems facing the black community were of their own doing. Maybe 5% was due to white racism.
Sooner or later you have to take responsibility for your own actions. Read Pimps Whores and Welfare Brats by Star Parker if you want to hear a black woman that agrees with me.
That is completely false because there are more poor White women who use free clinics in the US than Black. Remember, there are more Whites on welfare, than Blacks....which is a statistic I think you would not dispute.
