The Brazilian basketball confederation says Spain's Carlos Colinas will coach the women's national team at least until October.
The confederation says Colinas' contract can be extended for two years. He is replacing Paulo Bassul, whose contract ended last year.
Colinas' first competition will be the South American championship in Chile from Aug. 10-14. The confederation said on Wednesday he will also be in charge at the world championship in the Czech Republic from Sept. 23-Oct. 3.
Colinas led Spain Under-16s to three European titles and the Under-18s to two runner-up finishes in Europe. He was the assistant coach for the senior team when Spain was third in the 2002 European Championship.
