When you hear the words "Christian social justice" what do you think? Glenn Beck says Christians should leave those Churches in a heartbeat. As you might imagine, his comments have created quite a firestorm.
Jim Wallis, the President and Founder of Sojourners spoke to The Brody File about these comments and is calling on Christians to stop watching Glenn Beck's FOX News show. You can watch his comments below along with a partial transcription.
Wallis tells me, "Personal salvation and social justice are bound together in the Bible and he's saying leave Churches who talk about the central teachings of Christ and the scriptures?"

Demagogues are the most dangerous people on the Planet Earth. One such demagogue is the persuasive Glenn Beck. The recent incendiary remarks by Beck should put every Christian on notice that here is a man whose character in many ways resembles Hitler's. Modern day history recoils at the mention of Hitler's name. However, it looks like Glenn Beck has taken up where Hitler left off. This assessment may sound caustic, but it doesn't come close to the noxious words of a man whose mission in life is to destroy democracy as we know it. Beck’s pedantic and ignorant platitudes of the constitution have given him a perverted view of democracy. The Machiavellian character of Beck should not be accepted with our eyes shut. It is a known fact that the Nazis established the faith movement of German Christians with the intention of encouraging fierce German nationalism and to undercut the biblical authority of Jesus Christ.
Beck hopes to encourage Christians to leave the churches that profess social justice. What Beck is really saying to all of us is to ignore the teachings of Jesus Christ. Glenn Beck is looking for followers to champion his cause. Hitler did the same thing during an economic crisis in the nation of Germany. One of the levels of the Nazi organizational structure was to promote the evils of Germany’s government through the venues of radio and newspapers. Sound familiar? Social injustice for Beck is another code word for helping the minorities, the poor, and the undesirables. Hitler’s enemies were called the Jews, the Gypsies, the African race, and the disabled. The goal of Hitler was to keep the German conscience paralyzed with a sedative of hope that one day the Aryan Race would rule the world. To be fair minded, history recognizes that there were those Germans who rejected Hitler's new Aryan government.
Glenn Beck elevates himself as an intellectual scholar on the Constitution. His belief is that America is becoming a socialist government inspired by Marx. The other belief is that our Constitution, written by our founding fathers, was divinely inspired by twenty-eight principles. Glenn Beck's beliefs have been influenced by W. Cleon Skousen, a Mormon scholar/theologian claiming to have visions from God about the twenty-eight principles which guided the writings of our founding fathers. He is the author of the book entitled, 5,000 Year Leap. This book is an anti-communist book with a touch of an apology on the divine position of our founding fathers. "Leap, first published in 1981, is a heavily illustrated and factually challenged attempt to explain American history through an unspoken lens of Mormon theology. A once-famous anti-communist ‘historian,’ Skousen was too extreme even for the conservative activists of the Goldwater era, but Glenn Beck has now rescued him from the remainder pile of history, and introduced him to a receptive new audience.” Much of Beck's teachings are in direct opposition to our Christian beliefs.
Hitler made a statement which can be analogous to why Beck crossed over into the religious sector: “By warding off the Jews, I am fighting for the Lord's work.” If you trace the history of demagogues, their first strategy is to control religious-minded people for a nationalistic cause which ends up being antithetical to the biblical causes of God, i.e. social justice. The new church that Beck leads is FOX News Church. He has now been appointed to be their preacher. Beck is unscrupulous and cunning. He knowingly deliberates what will be his next talking point to further his methodology of propagandizing the American public. As long as Fox News Network condones Glenn Beck's antics and crazy misguided religious thinking, then the public must ask themselves the simple question, “What are the true motives of Fox News?” Common sense tells many people that the real culprit is Fox News. Christians who profess Jesus Christ must pro-actively not just denounce Glenn Beck but take every political and economic resource available to remove him. No one touches the apple of God's Eye- not even Glenn Beck.
