Matt Kenseth spent Friday on one end of the garage breaking in his third crew chief this season, while Red Bull Racing Team was on the other helping driver No. 3, Reed Sorenson, get comfortable.
Matt Kenseth is in New Hampshire for Sunday's Sprint Cup Series race.
The hope is for a charmed ending in both cases, though seventh-place Kenseth faces an easier challenge meshing with Jimmy Fennig, who follows Drew Blickensderfer and Todd Parrott with Roush Fenway Racing's No. 17 Ford team. Fennig was crew chief for Kurt Busch during his 2004 run to the Sprint Cup -- a year after Kenseth's title -- and the two teamed up for four poles and three wins in the Nationwide Series in 2006.
"I think we've got a good relationship, so we'll see what happens," Fennig said. "But I'm looking forward to being with him again."
Red Bull seeks similar progress with Sorenson on the No. 83 Toyota team, which was driven by Casey Mears the past five races after regular driver Brian Vickers was lost for the season with blood clots. Sorenson, who raced in Cup for Richard Petty Motorsports before being let go after last season, has spent most of 2010 in the Nationwide Series with Braun Racing.
He is paired with crew chief Jimmy Elledge, recently moved from the No. 82 team to boost the performance of a team that qualified for last year's Chase with Vickers. Even if his three-race deal isn't extended, Sorenson considers this an audition for other teams as well.
"Hopefully, I make the most of it," said Sorenson, wearing a Red Bull cap with Vickers' name superimposed across the bill. "I'm looking forward to starting it off with a good run this weekend."
