Vancouver Canucks center Henrik Sedin was backstage Wednesday night in Las Vegas with the winners of the last three Hart Trophies, Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby.
Vancouver Canucks center Henrik Sedin won the Hart Trophy as league MVP after winning the scoring race with 112 points.
But the NHL's leading scorer walked away with the league MVP award, ending the two-year run of Washington Capitals star Ovechkin.
Sedin finished the season with 112 points, winning the Art Ross Trophy for the first time in franchise history. The Ornskoldsvik, Sweden, native set three franchise records in 2009-10: becoming the club's all-time assist leader, passing Trevor Linden; eclipsing Pavel Bure's single season points record; and establishing the single-season assists record, surpassing the previous record he posted in 2006-07. He also led the league in assists (83) and set career highs in goals (29), assists (83) and points (112).
He accomplished that, even though his brother and linemate, Daniel, missed 19 games with a broken foot.
Voting took place in April, but Sedin wasn't sure if he would hear his name being called. He received 46 first-place votes to 40 by Ovechkin and 20 by Pittsburgh Penguins star Crosby.
"They're the faces of the sport," Sedin, 29, said of the other two. "Just to watch them play and the things they do, to be standing there next to them and being the old guy, it's a strange feeling. I don't know. I'm very proud. It was a great honor, for sure.
Neither Ovechkin nor Crosby walked away empty-handed.
