New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul said the right words in a meeting with club executives Monday.
Chris Paul and Hornets management said all the right things in a meeting Monday about the star point guard's future in New Orleans. Some wonder, though, if Paul really does still want to be traded from New Orleans.
Management did the same.
Even if Paul privately wants a trade, both sides focused on him remaining with the team.
After a 90-minute session with President Hugh Weber, new coach Monty Williams and new general manager Dell Demps, Paul released a statement:
"The meeting went well. ... I expressed my desire to win and I like what they said about the direction that they want to take the team. I have been a Hornet my entire career and I hope to represent the city of New Orleans and state of Louisiana for many years to come."
Also in attendance were Paul's new agent, Leon Rose, who also represents Miami Heat forward LeBron James and Denver Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony, and Paul's brother, C.J.
Demps, who was hired last week, said Paul did not request a trade. New Orleans has been adamant about not trading Paul, who doesn't have a lot of leverage. He is under contract through 2011-2012, with a player option for 2012-2013.
"He was energetic. He was open. He was honest," Demps said. "He showed that he wants to win, and that's what we want to do, as well."
