For Tracy McGrady, it's not about proving anything. It's just about getting back to being considered one of the top players in the league.
Newly signed free agent Tracy McGrady checks out his new Pistons jersey during a news conference at the team's practice facility.
McGrady, 31, was introduced to the Detroit media Monday afternoon, shortly after he signed his one-year, $1.35-million deal to join the Pistons next season.
When the Pistons open training camp in late September, it will be almost a year and half since McGrady had microfracture knee surgery while with the Houston Rockets. McGrady is confident that time and working with the Pistons' training staff will have him back in form.
"It's really not about proving my doubters wrong," McGrady said at the team's practice facility in Auburn Hills. "Guys have injuries throughout the seasons and throughout their careers. I've been one of the top guys in this league for several years, and I've dealt with some injuries over the years which really hindered my career.
"It makes for a great story, and that's what I'm looking for. I've worked my butt off the last two years, and I will continue to work my butt off and get myself in great shape and get my knee right to contribute to this team.
"I don't have to prove anything to anybody but myself."
