The expected launch this week of Apple Inc.'s iPhone 5 could have a big impact -- not just on the company, but also the nation's economy.

As Reuters reports, the iPhone 5 smartphone could lift the U.S. gross domestic product by as much as $3.2 billion in the fourth quarter, according to a J.P. Morgan economist. That could add between a quarter and a half percentage point to fourth quarter annualized growth, J.P. Morgan chief economist Michael Feroli wrote in a note to clients.
Feroli noted that of J.P. Morgan (NYSE: JPM) analysts expect Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) to sell around 8 million iPhone 5s in the fourth quarter at about $600 apiece.
