Nelson, a 20-year Time Inc veteran, had been editorial director of its Style & Entertainment Group and Lifestyle Group. Previously, she was editor of People and the founding editor of InStyle. She extended InStyle's brand reach with TV specials and a digital site.
She also oversaw the digital extensions of People, which became the top celebrity Web site.
Time CEO Laura Lang stated that Nelson was "a creative thinker with a visceral understanding of the consumer." She called her the "ideal leader" to helm operations.
