Her story is very familiar and yet still unbelievable. She was born poor to an unwed teen. Her name was supposed to be Orpah, after a Biblical figure, but it was misspelled on her birth certificate. She was molested as an adolescent, had a child at age 14 (her son died shortly after being born).
She began working in radio while she was still in high school, and then moved into TV news. In her late 20s, she landed a gig hosting the lowest-rated morning talk show in Chicago - and within months she had made it the top-rated show. A few years later, the show went national and became a sensation.
