DeVon Franklin Honored with Black History Month Achievement Award" at Oakwood University Church

Christian Hollywood executive, DeVon Franklin, was honored with the "Black History Month Achievement Award" at Oakwood University Church, on the campus of Oakwood University in Huntsville, AL. where Dr. Carlton P. Byrd is Senior Pastor.

Franklin is a member of the Seventh-day Adventist denomination, a world-wide organization with more than 15 million members in countries around the world.

The preacher, who is the husband of actress Meagan Good, is very vocal about his faith--something that makes him unique among Hollywood's elite that are often hesitant to own their beliefs publicly.

During his award acceptance speech, Franklin said, "I remember growing up as a young child, I was always told what I can't do. I thought we were 'Can't-ventists,' not 'Adventists,'" he noted, reflecting on how many people said Hollywood was no place for Believers.

"But when I look at the word it says I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, so I began to challenge those who, as a young kid, told me don't go into Hollywood," he continued.

"Now, many people today say Hollywood is Sodom and Gomorrah. And as a young kid they said, DeVon, that's the devil's playground," admonishing him not pursue a career in Tinseltwon.

But the faith-filled, courageous young man refused to cop to fear.
